breaking vibrations

when I apply my breaks at higher speeds (anything over 55 mph) my steering wheel vibrates to the point where it is difficult to maintain in full control of my car (98 Camry CE V6 - 76k miles). Also, I have checked my pads and rotors and they are in great shape - vibration is not noticable at the breake pedal only steering wheel.

I have 17" 225/45/R17 which run very nicely all the way up to 125 mph (especially since I added hub-rings).

I would like a 'cheaper' solution ideas to fix car's original suspension which feels very loose - car feels like it floats a lot - and makes really loud noise when I hit a pot-hole or a speed bump even going 10 mph.

I need help since I drive about 130 miles every day (65 to work and back) - thanks in advance

you say that your rotors are in "great shape", but have you actually spun them to see if they're straight? it sounds like your problem are warped rotors....maybe be machinable, may not be

bring them to a shop for them to check for you, and get them machined if possible.

Floating feeling and feels very loose? Check that your tire pressures are right first. Cheapest to do.

def sounds like warped rotors...do you happen to wash your car immediately after driving it often?

Question

dealer suggestions: replace front strut upper mounting brackets (both sides) - according to them a known issue with '98 Camry - and this will help vibration and loud noises from front when hitting pot-holes and speed bumps

also, to replace bushings - and then only to machine the rotoros since they have a low and even wear on both front wheels

floating feel - add a strut bar and stiffer springs

so I guess I need some suggestions for - strut mounting brackets, strut bars, and springs - also does my dealer sound like a helpful individual or just a good sales person

I'd say rotors first, because they're not that expensive to replace. Turned rotors tend to eat pads when breaking in, so I'd recommend new ones.

The dealer sounds helpful. Since you've already got lower profile tires, springs and struts would be the next step. While changing them it is a good idea to change the strut mounts as well. The strut bar won't help ALOT, but for the minimal expense, why not. I just have a cheap ($20 shipped) eBay strut bar, and I have no complaints. Most recommend Tokico struts, but I'm still stock so I can't tell you from experience. When I do have the cash to upgrade it's going to be Tokico for me though. Eibach, Vogtland, and Tein would be good spring choices for your car.
