camry oil seal ?

Im going to do a rear oil seal on a 94 camry and i need a liitle help. To do the rear oil seal, is it easier to take the auto transmission out or take the engine out. Im aslo doing the timming belt too. My last question is, is it common for the rear oil seal to leak for this year camry with 15000miles in it. Thanks, any input will help.

My 95 doesn't seem to leak on the front or rear, and the mileage is very high.

If I did it, I'd likely lift the tranny up about a foot. You have to be careful that the torque converter stays in place, otherwise you'd have to flip the tranny partially vertical to get the torque converter rengaged.

I did my 85 and I could't get the torque converter to rengage when the transmission was horizontal. I had to turn it so that the torque convertor was up, then it dropped into place without any effort.

You can do either or.

Having done a engine swap and 2 tranny swaps on a friends 94 Camry, I find it easier to pull the engine + tranny together. Then seperate the engine and tranny once its out of the car.

This also makes getting to the belts very easy.

Its not very common, but I have heard of leaks from the rear main seal.

You only have 15,000 miles and its leaking. I thought I had it bad. My 96 V6 started leaking from the rear seal at around 55,000 miles. It was kinda on and off for awhile. Now at 96k and its a consistant leak. I get a 3" spot in the drieway every time.

I was using Castrol GTX 5w30 the whole time. I just switched to Castrol High milage 10w40 the other day. I hope it works. I'd put a diaper on that thing before i'd pull the motor.
