normal driving temperature????

i think i need to change my coolant soon.. my 92 camry I-4 isnt overheating, but when i warm up the engine, the timperature needle goes about 40% of the way, and while im driving normally, with rpms going under 3k, the needle goes to halfway sometimes to about 60%. u guys think i should just drain the radiator and add new coolant on, or drain it and flush through the whole system with a garden hose? i bought the car 2 years ago from a used car dealeraship, so i guess its about time since maybe they didnt change the coolant for a while too.

the needle in the 50% mark is normal, that's where mine usually is, 60% isnt all the un-normal either, you should be okay

yeah but flush it anyways since you don't know if it's ever been flushed.. also good time to check on the hoses.

Cool

^ What he said. Flush it. Use some of the cleaner also.
Never put Toyota Red antifreeze with anything. Whatever it had previously, continue to use that.

That being taken care of, anything between the marks is the "normal operating range".

yea.. i normally drive my civic, and my mom drives the camry. i drive the camry like once per week so i dont pay attention to the needle much.. my civic and other cars i driven, the temp guage goes to about 25% normally. not so sure bout toyotas. but yea 60% is pretty normal for camrys right? i dont have much time on my hands, so its going to be about a month before i start to go under the car.

I've heard that the temp gauge in toyotas are not very specific or accurate. Mine always stays at exactly 1/2. (It went up when I changed the thermostat, but then it turned out that thermostat was defective, and got it exchanged, and now it's always at 1/2 again).
