engine swap- wire harness problem need help.

i had a 96 camry 4 cylinder 5sfe engine that went south. i bought a so called 95 not sure the model, and thought my harness would fit all the compontents. the only problem iam getting is , which if i would have known , i would have not bought this engine ,is that there is no crankshaft sensor plug on this engine i bought and my old harness has the plug for it with 2 wires ,, and the distrubtor has a plug with 4 wires in it , which i was told that the sensor is in the distrubutor and not down by the crank pulley. so is it possible to extend the outlet wires somehow and join them to 2 of the 4 wires that go into the distrubutor and cap off the other 2?? or somehow mount the senor somehow down by the crank pulley??? i hope this makes sence to someone lol... and how can i tell which model engine is this one , the one without the crankshaft sensor mount???? and what can i do , cause without hooking it up , i have no spark...

iam sure this question came up before i was searching all over this forum and thought i just ask. thanks guys

No, but what you could do is get an ECU from a '95 and use that one.

Your old motor has DIS (distributorless ignition system). It has a crank and cam position sensor.

You can try retrofitting the parts from the old motor on the new one. Although I don't know if it'll work or not.

Otherwise do what Dr Tweak said. You might need a wiring harness from a 95 Camry too or whatever the motor came out of.

Cool

What they said. You technically could wire the NE signal coming out of the distributor for the crank position sensor, but it still wouldn't work. The signals themselves are different wave forms, and wouldn't be recognized.
