Angry I'm gonna blow up the camry!! help!!

well where do i start.

i was doing an engine swap to replace an old tired 98 camry 4 cyl. auto.

engine in swap went good. car starts and run fine.

the transmission does not work!!!! ( it worked fine before hand)

i can shift through the gears (automatic) and unless i am in park it acts like it is in nuetral. no power to the wheels. What am I missing here? any help would be great.

the fluid level is good and the axles move freely. I can push the car both forwards and backwards. no check engine lights either. I am stumped and out of solutions.

help?

Use plastic, a block 4 and some decord will shred the thing good.
But thats just advice from an ex-combat engineer.

did you mate the flywheel and the tranny properly?

because if you haven't touched the tranny, then I wouldn't think anything would happen to your torqueconverter or clutch or what not

you may have missed an electrical connector or two, or you put the shifter cable on wrong, ex..too loose or too tight.

when you say it acts like its in neutral, unless you are in part, please explain.

^^

Make sure the torque converter is installed properly. It should seat fully onto the input shaft of the tranny.

My friend fried a tranny because of this, so make sure the torque converter is seated all the way on the input shaft.

The torque converter drives the pump within the tranny. Pump not being driven = no fluid = fried tranny.

when i wasy saying it acted like it was in nuetral, when not it park I meant that i can put it in any gear and push the car with not resistance.

I think that it has to have something to do with the torque convertor/tranny I am confused because everythgin is bolted up with no gaps. you would think that it would be fully seated if that was the case.

does anyone have a pic of the gear selector cable installed? that way i can make sure mine is correctly oriented.

The lever on the front of the neutral safety switch should be in the left most position.

If you unbolt the cable and move the lever manually, you should feel some resistance before it clicks into the left most position. Whereas it'll move easier between the other positions.

Anyways you want the lever in the left most position, then bolt up the cable. The bolt up point for the cable should be about in the middle of the slot on the lever.

After you get the cable bolted up, make sure you can move the shifter from P to L and from L back to P.

it the left most position when you are looking at it park?

and jhbhatia, the swap wasn't bad. lots of plugs, and the axles are a PITA. I say take your time and be organized. This isn't my first swap (firrst camry swap, but I have done honda's before) the basics are all the same.
