If you had a choice between a 99 Avalon or a 2000/2001 Camry V6 which would you choose. I am looking into purchasing either one, but dont know which to choose. One of the things that is causing me to lean towards the Avalon is the fact that it is cheaper in general than the Camry, but it is on an older platform. Let's see what you guys think?
also, the avalons that I am looking at have between 60-90k miles on them, is this a ton of mileage for a toyota? My parents 97 Avalon has 77k miles on it so far and never a problem.
I also heard about sludge problems that were prominent on the 97-01 Avalons and camry's with the 1mzfe engine. Were these mainly due to lack of maintenance, or a design flaw? Oh and I just inquired at my local toyota dealer for a 2000 camry v6 with 39k miles, they wanted $14500 and would absolutely not budge on the price. This price honestly seems a bit steep to me being as how I could get a new scion or corolla for about the same money. I know Toyotas have excellent resale value but I think this guy is just trying to screw people blind. Right now I am leaning toward the Avalon if for the sole reasons that it is cheaper and I do kinda like the gen1 Avalons styling better than the gen 4 camrys

Go to ebay, look up camrys in your locality, then call them and go see the cars, I'm not telling you to buy the car off ebay, but use that and autotrader.com to see whats selling nearby. I sold my car (posted it on ebay..and someone came to look at it and paid cash) like that...so you never know. Local papers have good listings (we just bought a 19K accord coupe for $10K)
