You can but, the ride will be bouncy. More so if your struts are already worn out.
I suggest that you save up and buy em both at the same time. You'll save on labor and you'll be more happy with the results.
what is the deal with everyone saying this? Have you ever actually driven a car with stock struts and lowering springs? I have, for over a year. The ride is perfect, my struts are not wearing out, and everyone says the ride is awsome, even my parents. Either i'm a lucky SOB, or people don't realize that its not a big deal at all to have stock struts on lowering springs!

Actually i agree with alex. Even though getting aftermarket struts would be the right thing to do, I have been riding on just H&Rs for a month now with *blown* struts and the ride is very very nice and not bouncy, unless i hit a HUGE dip, but thats it.

Ratko, do you have any pics of your car lowered?
right now i have the front springs (which belong to Steve now) still on, but the rear springs were never put on. Im waiting on a new set to come in. Ill have pics up once its done.
I've ridden on H&R springs for about half a year on my gen4 until I got tokico blues. My friends thought the ride wasn't bad at all. After I got my tokico blues the ride felt the same on smooth surfaces, but over bumps there was a huge difference. I would say it's okay to ride on lowering springs with stock struts if your the one doing the installation so that way you wouldn't be wasting money.
yeah I guess stock strut + lowering springs should be okay, the only problem is that you will have to pay for the installation twice if you decide to get struts in the future as others have mentioned here.
I got my Eibach Pro kit springs from a US merchant, I didn;t have to pay for the custom at all since he helped me ship it by USPS and declared it as a warranty replacement. I believe I got it for around 360-370 Cdn dollars everything included. I know Canadian Tire sells it for $440 + tax, one of the bodyshop I asked, they sell it for $440 including tax.
yeah, i totally agree about saving money, and putting the struts in at the same time, instead of waiting until later. I just get soooooo irritated when people say that the ride is horrible, and you can't control your car when you have OME struts
Forget changing the springs, I cut my stock springs to lower my car. The ride isn't as bad as one would say. I'm going back to stock springs very soon, i guess at the end of the season. I'm getting my new lowering springs coming in soon for next year, no struts.
As for importing the Eibach's, and Canadian Tire price of $440. I think you can get springs pretty cheap in Toronto, without importing them from US. I know a place they told me CDN$350 flat for Gen3 Eibach's (1.0"), although there were big differences between different performance shops. (ranged $350-$450).
Ratko, I wonder how your car looks with only front lowered!
Have you ever actually driven a car with stock struts and lowering springs?
Yes.

How do you figure the struts aren't wearing out?
They don't last forever, just give it some time and you'll see.
i guess i worded that wrong....i appologize. I meant to say that they are not wearing out as fast as people say they will. not that they are not wearing out at all.
