3rd Generation Question?

I have a 96 Camry V6LE, when i go to look for cold air intakes they always say fits 94-95, and then the next year starts with the gen 4s and 97. Is there some reason why 96 is skipped just wondering what intake out there actually fits my car. Also, im ordering some 18inch rims and wanted to lower my car after that. At first i was thinking eibach, but i have heard some people say the 1inch drop isnt really noticeable, so i was wondering what would be a good set of springs to get or even if someone knows where to get a good coil-over set that wont kick me in the balls when i see the price. Thanks

you have a weird year...96 camrys are considered gen3.5 as they fall between both 4 and 3

i see no reason why the CAI wouldnt fit your 96 seeing as though they both use MAF (mass air flow) sensors

i wouldnt know personally if they would fit, mostly because im a 4 banger guy, but im sure someone on here has an answer for you...but in any case, it shouldnt be too hard to fit it at all due to the fact that its possible to make one yourself out of some exhuast piping and PVC couplers

springs, there are TONS of options out there....i prefer H&R (even though i do not have them, they would be my first choice if i lowered) mainly because they are 1) German made 2)provide a decent drop of 1.75 in and 3) are pretty performance based check out the camry faq section on these forums to decide for yourself

good luck!

Alright i went and did some research on the whole engine thing and it looks more to me like the V6 for 96 is the same V6 that was in the gen 4s, so im thinking maybe i should look for performance parts that fit 97 camrys...am i just completely wrong with that assumption?

i have the same engine as u....94-96 V6 are 1MZ-FEs (engine code) and i have an AEM CAI (that i bought from cardomain.com) they don't list 96 but since it says "1MZ-FE engines only" i'm assuming that it would have to fit the 96

if it fits a 94/95 v6 then it should fit your 96. i wouldnt order the 97 one b/c the 97 1mz-fe is slightly different. the 97 1mz-fe accepts the trd supercharger and the 94/95/96 does not.

or you could email the seller and ask. just an idea.

edit: i believe that the 96 es300's have the same v6 as 97 camry's. some other member should be able to correct me if im wrong. not that it applies to you but im kinda curious. maybe i will do a search.

Alright, on the spring issue i have decided to go with a set from intrax. Now the only problem is getting them installed. Im not sure i really want to do it my self, as i dont think i have the skills nor the tools required to do this. I went around yesterday and asked a few places like midas, farm and fleet, and a couple other chain auto shops and pretty much got the same answer from all of them......good luck and finding someone to put on springs you didnt buy from the shop that is putting them on.....So i was just wondering if anyone knew of some places that will put on springs that i didnt buy from that actual shop...because no one around where i live sells intrax springs.

Not to be a post whore or one of those types...but I have a set of those intraxes....You can get it done at a midas...or a good tire shop with alignements needed. About the intraxes...I have an extra set off of my 92...they fit to 96 V6. I went with eibachs, PM me and we can negotiate....actually, resonable offers will be accepted

My guess is that since you've got a '96, the reason the 94-95 CAI won't work is b/c it lacks the holes for the sensors that are required by OBD-II. For example the I4 short-ram widely available on Ebay if you're gonna waste the $$ on it has a grommet for what I believe is an air temp. sensor the OBD-II cars have (96) that the 92-95 cars do not.

My .02, but you could just get the 94-95 version and drill some holes
