Question Oil Drain Plugs

Has anyone used either the Fumoto or Fram SureDrain drain valves? Any opinions? I wanted to get one for my 94 Camry and put an end to the hot oil manicures.

I have the Fram SureDrain, seems to work fine. My only negative comment would be that it takes longer for the old oil to drain out, but that is no big deal to me.

Cool

I've talked to someone with a Fumoto. He said it leaked all his oil out a mile from his house and that it was installed correctly.

Swapped to a faucet valve from a home improvement store and everything was fine.

My cousin used Fumoto on his WRX. No oil leak for him though. Oil change for his car was a snap.

Toysrme... did it leak around the gasket or through the valve?

95camguy... just tired of the cleanup for so simple an operation.

seems to work fine for me. I've been using the sure-drain plug for a while now.

saves a lot of shivering in the winter with oil changes.

Wink

SureDrain is slower, but then again I'm either doing something else while the oil drains or I have the car in for the night with the oil draining in preparation for whatever maintenance I plan to do in the morning.

Yeah, the way I have it figured I win using the sure drain.

time to look for proper wrench in my mess > extra time it takes sure drain to drain oil

and I don't have the frustration of having to search for the right size wrench (yes my tools and stuff are a mess and no I am not going to clean it up anytime soon)

I had a Fumoto drain valve installed on my 1986 Mazda pickup truck that I eventually sold in 1999. It saw many oil changes from dealer, fast lube, cheap lube and DIY lube in all these years and it had never failed.

I removed it before I sold the truck and still has it in my tool box (won't fit Toyotas.)

Another big plus for the Fumoto or drain valve in general is that it reduces the chance that the absent minded fast lube kids from stripping the drain plug thread on the pan. I did have to watch them still as some of them will try to remove the valve to drain the oil anyway.

Whats the purpose of these valves?? Isnt a spanner quick enough?? It just means more potential for leaks.

Cool

wanman75 i'm not sure. I don't even remember who AIM'd me about it at this point.

JetspeedCamry Easier to flick a valve and have it drain, than get oily and turn it by hand. For the cost, it's an awsome improvement. It's almost as good as actually owning the oil filter drain shield that let's you pull the oil filters out without draining oil all over the engine/frame

Toys, the suredrain has a seal that the hose releases when you screw it in. You don't get oily at all.
