2nd Generation 3sgte swap. Questions Before i start to buy stuff

Im about to buy all the gear i need for the 3sgte conversion (it will be slow) but before i potentialy start wasteing my money i want to confirm a few things with you guys

1 the engine slots straight in on the 3sfe mounts.
2 the engine will bolt up to the tranny and exhaust (before or after cat?)
3 the auto tranny i have will not last long? How long is not long if i baby the thing till i can afford it?
4 the Gen 2 GTE is slightly lower in HP but there is more aftermarket gear avaliable?
5 brake upgrade required?
6 Intercooler? whats the go there?

Anyway i have searched this subject heaps and just want to be sure before i fork out a heap of dollars. Thanks for any reply.

Yes, or IIRC you can use the mounts from a Celica All Trac/GT4.

I asked Wraith about it along time ago and IIRC he said you can also use the mounts from a Celica.

Yes on the tranny.

The exhaust will most likely have to be custom. I suggest upgrading the entire exhaust system anyways. Goto 2.5" - 3" pipe. The aftermarket turbo kits I've seen for 3S-GTEs have phatty 3" downpipes.

3S-GTEs were never mated with a auto tranny. The exception is the Caldina (ST215), it has a 3S-GTE mated to a auto tranny.

So unless you get ahold of a Caldina clip or use a full standalone computer, forget about using a auto tranny with a 3S-GTE.

IIRC 1st and 2nd gen 3S-GTE is rated at 225hp. 3rd gen is rated at 245hp. This is for JDM 3S-GTEs.

The difference is with the ports, runners, and turbo. Something like that. Wraith would know more about it.

Theres tons of aftermarket parts for a 3S-GTE. I don't think most parts are generation specific, a 3S-GTE is a 3S-GTE.

Not required, but probably a good idea.

You can use the front brakes from a Celica All Trac/GT4. And for the rear you can use the brakes from a gen 2 V6 Camry (they came with rear disc brakes).

Celica All Trac/GT4 use a top mount intercooler (tmic). Some generations were air cooled and some have a air to water intercooler.

I would use a front mount intercooler (fmic).

Did the US spec Celica come in 3s-gte? I don't remember if they did or not, but if they do can you use the parts from that instead of a GT4?

Cool

E153.
Three versions. The Celica/all-track one, the early year camry v6 ones (through '93) and the later ones. Get a 93+. They changed the synchros in 93 for better operation.

They all will bolt up. Which one does he need for eveything to line up? The v6 ones, or the celica one?

no offense, but I hope you have an assload of money to spend and don't plan on keeping it streetable.

the 3sgte + tranny will be quite a bit of money in itself, then you'll need a standalone or to have everything rewired in the least (EMS would better suite you for performance), plus a larger turbo (ct-26 will NOT get you there)... The list goes on...

Don't mean to down yah, if you get this project rolling, more power to yah, but it's going to be QUITE an expensive project.

yeh i understand that it will be expensive, but im doing it over time so i will begin with the engine tranny and exhaust. These will cost around (aud) 2000 engine 1000 tranny and 400 for the pipe plus install for the engine, and tranny so i figure i can have done stage one for 5000 to 6000. what do you guys think?

sounds fine to me, but unless you intend on having the ct-26 modded, you may as well go for a different turbo. No sense in buying something you'll need to replace later on anyhow (just costs you more in the long run)
