I finnally got everything done with the Camry so I can start with the mods! Or so I think. I just dropped over $1,900 into the Camry with repairs and a unorthodox racing pulley. I thought I had all my oil leaks fixed, seems to still be leaking some. But anyways the pulley is great, the car pulls harder than before...ripp mods headers and Lexus Is300 rims going on next
Ill post an update on the pulley and the gains im feeling.

Just out of curiosity, do you need to be a manual trans. to install a underdrive pulley? How hard was it to install? How much did it cost? and whered you get it? I've been searching google, and nothing comes up for a camry..

you can use an underdrive pulley on any tranny type, as it doesn't apply to the tranny at all. The underdrive pulley is a smaller/lightened crankshaft pulley (probably your bottom-most pulley)
They sell for $170-$200 depending on where you get 'em.
Also this is kinda off topic but I really dont wanna make anohter thread, but I've serached google/ebay and came up with nothing for a torque converter for the cam. Is there such a thing? or any other "engine" mods.
Because intake/headers/exhaust can only get you so far until you force induction.

^ if you're really serious, then there's lots you can do....as long as you have lots of $$$ to spend...
jpheaders, custom y-pipe, port/polish, up the compression, etc etc, with money, you can do pretty decent with all motor
but tranny-wise, check out www.levelten.com, you send them your torque converter, and they modiffy it to be high stall and they can also build your whole tranny too- but no point unless you're actually pushing some power

Nobody makes them for our engine. The gains are minimal anyway.
What does a torque converter have to do with forced induction? Regardless, there isn't going to be much off-the-shelf stuff for this car as far as engine performance goes. Custom full-length exhaust, intake, port & polish, a/f piggyback and dyno tuning might get you close to 200hp for around $2000. Figure $3k for forced induction and closer to 300 ponies.
I do know that the Is300 rims don't fit the I4 right. I heard with spacers that they will work. I know everyone says to stay away from spacers, but did the people that lost wheels on spacers actually change the lug studs? I have a 89 Caprice on real knock offs, basicly a spacer....never once had a problem, but I didn't need longer studs.
The wrong with the Camry. Valve cover gasket, all 4 mounts motor and tranny, oil pump was leaking oil. I figured, The water pump is only accsesable after the timing chain cover is removed....I might as well replace that, oil pump has to come off, its pretty crucial to the cars operation, ok replace that, timing belt...it was last changed at 70k miles, so replace that too, and since the underdrive pulley has to come off....replace that too and get new belts, Mind you the car has 160,000 miles on it. Once I saw the old oil and water pump I was amazed. The water pump was about 10k miles from crapping out, my oil pump was on the way too, the timing belt wasn't too bad, but still better safe than sorry and saved on labor! All in all I've dropped over $1,900 this month alone....thats just ball park guys.
Now as for the pulley, The hp gains are minimal, but I can feel a nice change in acceleration. After 170 miles its really starting to kick, 45-60 is alot quicker, and anyone with a auto and 5s-fe knows once your at 45 and try to go somewhere fast your shit outta luck with that. I can feel the gains in the low end. I did a launch today, no brake gas crap....just mashed the gas, my 2 12's went flying to the back of the car....and I've never had that problem. As was said in the last thread the rpms do get up faster and drop faster. 1-3 rpms is better, 3-5 it just flys through them 5-6 its still not really all there, buts its improved. Im happy with it, in my mind...it was a good $220 spent.
Install shouldn't be too too hard, ill ask my mechanic tommarow about it, and ill weigh the stock pulley at work on friday, if anyone knows what the Unorthodox pulley weights post it up.
After all this money in repairs.....just wait till I start modding it for real this time Im going to try to be one of the faster members on TN.com.
