Hey all,
I got a 94 camry XLE 4cyl. I get about 245 miles to a full take with mix driving.. the car got bout 234K its got bosal headers and "fart can".. Could there be and issue with the O2 sensor possibilities?? I've changed my wires/cap/spark plugs/etc.. not much of a change..
What he said, the gas pedal has the most to do with it.
o2 sensor. You can check them. Bring the car up to temperature at 2000rpm, the voltage should be at 450mv on the simulated signal.
Reading from the o2 sensor itself, it should swing between around 420 and 480mv at least 8 times a second.
A dead o2 sensor will read 450mv all the time.

City driving makes a 50% difference in my car's consumption.
Also tears the brakes and tires up. You can imagine the rest.
However stop using the tank as an indicator. Not a good way for gauging consumption. Just take your milage and divide by how much you pumped in.
For example; Divide 234 miles on odo by 15.456 gallons at pump = 15.14 mpg.
Along with the O2 sensors mentioned above, also use the digital volt/ohmeter to check the coolant temp sensor. Toyota refers to it as the ECT sensor. It tells the ECU how cold or warm the engine is by way of the coolant temperature and the ECU adjusts the fuel mixture richer or leaner accordingly. A failing coolant temp sensor could be telling the ECU the engine is cold when it's in fact warm. This can waste a lot of fuel.
Let's also not forget the obvious; a little bit of brake drag can really affect mileage. On level ground, put the car in neutral with the e-brake off and try to push the car by hand. How hard is it to push? If it's real hard, jack up the front first and then the back end (with the e-brake off) and see how hard it is to rotate each tire by hand. If one wheel is noticeably harder to turn then the others, you have found an offending brake.
What kind of MPG are you guys normally getting? My 92 4cyl seems to get between 20 and 25 mpg depending on the type of driving. Usually close to 350 miles per tank. That about right?
thanks guys for your inputs, I have been using sea foam for a while now but.. I see there are slight improvements but it just returns to it nomal state. Do any gas additive do anything? I just drove my car in one sitting to the beach.. I got about 260 miles on a tank.. from F to the light turns on.. Or could it be a dirty fuel filter? I got an CAi with an intercooler looking intake?? ehh ..
Not really. Most are designed to help clean the fuel system from small debris/build-up.
If there is nothing blocking, or gunking the fuel system, then the additives don't appreciably do anything.
Fill the tank with 87 if you use premium, While it's filling reset the ECU (Pull the EFI fuse for 10 seconds) See if it's any better.
