Its hidden, uses a wire. I bought one from Bosch a long time ago and it sucked.

My Gen 5 doesn't have an antenna... I'm pretty sure its built in to the back window. It works well. I haven't noticed much difference from my 94 caddy with the power antenna.

P.S. I love the look of it without the antenna. Makes it look all sleak and sexy like.

its is in the back window, there's a seperate line loop that looks like one oe of your defroster lines.

I believe to boost reception you can bridge the ant into the def line. I know some people have shaved their ant and just wired it straight into the def line.

For the gen 4's made till 98 model year, only the CE trim line has a whip antenna on the back fender, all else LE and XLE will have the antenna intergrated into the rear window.

99+ ce's have the intergrated antenna.

It depends what type of camry you bought at the time. In 97 the built in ant. was an option and the exterior antenna was standard. Toyota did not produce alot of the ones with the exterior antenna because it did not look right. Be happy you don't have an antenna, it makes the car much cleaner.
