Talking Mufflers

So many mufflers. So little time to read reviews on all of them. for a 97 camry v6, what produces best flow and sound for the money? Any comments would be much appreciated.

Pretty much everything sounds OK on our cars. However, might want to try searching. Lots of people have posted sound clips and the like.

damn near anything will sound good on a V6...i have an oval Bosal muffler with a single 4 in outlet and get no farts and at idle is a very nice low growwwwlllll...it is loud (inside & outside) during normal driving around 2k-4k rpms but i listen to music too loud and it drowns it out...i'm sure TRD has one and the qualtiy will top notch...

good idea to go w/ cat-back instead of just muffler, it will only make the tone lower, deeper, and more fierce!

u'd probably be happier if u did some research on ur own and search cuz a cat-back is not chump change...make sure ur happy with what u get

lol a cat back is only a few $ more then just chaning the muffler... but for both.. dont expect any real power gain

get a nice y pipe done instead! (even with the rest of the exhaust stock)

Ha. Thanks again for all the sweet feedback guys. I have done a lot of research, regardless of what my first post said about not having time. That was just a smartass remark

I have listened to several of the sound files from maxspeed, magnaflow, and several others, not apex'l tho. But to me it sounds like most sites SAY it is on the car you search for (most sites say "click here to hear this on your car!" and you go to a page and choose make and model) but it is really the same car for every muffler. maybe even the same muffler! And that just pisses me off.

A Y-pipe huh? even with stock exhaust? just cut the pipe halfway down the car and Y it for dual exhaust? that just for looks/sound? Cause I wouldnt want to spend money doing a Y-pipe just so it looks or sounds cool ya know? My stock muffler has a nice Half-Dollar sized hole in the side of it and carbon is already building up around it. I need to replace it soon (even tho I like the Turbo sound my car now makes from the air whistling out of the hole! ).

Also, you said that a cat back costs only a LITTLE more than getting the muffler done? I don't know about that, since I have gotten estimates on a full cat back and muffler install (widening my pipe from the cat's back to 3" or 3.5" pipe) and it was around $600-$800 depends where I went and just buying a muffler is under $200 (especially for a cheap one) and I could chop and weld that bad boy myself at my friends place (he is rich as shit and has lifts in his friggin garage...bastard)...what are thoughts on doing a cat back versus just muffler. Is there really a big performance gain by doing a cat back and widening piping to 3-3.5"?

Anymore help would be much appreciated guys

Straight pipe

None of those on the market are really mufflers. They're all just resonators. FlowMaster are one of the few real performance muffler.

No. He's referring to the pipe that bolts under the engine and merges the exhaust from the front header and the rear header.

DAMN! No flex pipe? That could be dangerous. You need room for engine movement and Chassis flex.

who needs one on each downpipe when you only need one after the collector.

when i get a new car, the collector is getting cut off, and the front of the cat will be the collector, with the flex behind it.
