I need some info on this seafoam you all speak of.

First off, I have an early 91 5sfe with 230,000Km's on it, should i use it ?

Second, what the hell is it, what does it do, all I keep reading is seafoeam is da bomb, etc, etc.

Can someone help me out ?

John

Simple terms: Chemical which can be used to clean your gas tank, oil compartment, and your valves, cylinders, the whole chamber. Simple as that. Try it, you'll like it. It doesn't matter how many miles you got, it'll help regardless.

If your car has EGR and/or PCV and it hasn't been cleaned by hand in the last 6 months, it's full of carbon, 'nuff said.

be careful using the big line off the brake booster, your better off using a small line like the one on the regulator

If you use it or any cleaner in the gas, make sure and burn that tank within a few days as the stuff will soften fuel system parts over time.

I have performed a similar procedure on my 1988 325i (188K miles) called a 'hot soak'. You let the engine suck this stuff called 'ventril sauber' into the vacuum hose that goes to the fuel press. regulator. The engine dies, then you let it sit for an hour or more. When you start back up, you KNOW it's working due to the incredible smoke from the exhaust. Cleans build-up on valves REALLY well.
