Who would ACTUALLY buy a turbo kit?

Ok, I am wondering who on here would actually by a turbo kit right now. Not as in "yes I would buy one... If I had the money." I mean right now, if a kit was offered to them, they would front the money some how to get one.

I have been talking a lot with the guys from a local shop. The company is Boost Factory. They're just moving into their new shop, but I am considering setting up somewhat of a group buy. So instead of us each paying tons of money to have a custom made kit created, we could have them create one that a bunch of could use. This is no BS, no empty promises. A real kit.

How many people, in the next month or two would be able to front between $2,000 and $3500 for a kit? (keep in mind these are general numbers and not the exact price).

And of those people, what engine do you have?
If this was to happen, we would have to have a decently large group of people for one engine type.

I really want to do this for the Camry community, and make everyones dreams of turboing come true. But it will take a large number for each engine, otherwise, the kits will end up being higher priced because it wouldn't be mass produced.

The point of this thread was to single out the people who don't have the money... However you could buy the kit and then sell the turbo seeing as it would be brand new.

Please, on post if your serious, thanks.

Cool

Start off by telling people what car/engine you're offering to have built for them...

SMT6 unit would be the Piggy-back supplied. Most likely it will be the turbo, piping, intercooler (if people decide they want that to be part of the kit or if they want to go lower).

Keep in mind, I have no say in price or what goes into it. This is just to give you a general idea of what it would be. We won't know what Boost Factory would be willing to do until I have confirmed a good number of people would 100% be interested. I'm not going to go to them empty handed and say "I think these people will follow through"

It will be offered for which ever engine gets the highest amount of people willing to front the money. I'm going to let the people decide instead of just telling them it's for a certain engine and hope enough people will buy in. And the Car can be either Gen 3 or Gen 4 Camrys (Should fit Avalons also) because they have the same engine bay size needed for the piping.

This is just a survey. Please answer if it applies to you. If we actually get enough interest, then I will go into details. This thread is not a group buy. It's just to see if there are actually people who would put up the money.

Make it for an i4 5SFE, which can get good amount of boost, intercooler, etc, I'd do it.

Same. Ideally I'd like to do the 3vz, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of people willing to put up the money. So we'll have to see.

And keep in mind, the TRD blower can't put down 15psi

^ Why not? Can they not machine a pulley small enough? Obviously you would want to run water injection...

I know a few people with money fronted to buy 3vz-fe turbo's, but McE, or custom work from local fab shops have them pretty much wrapped up if noone else get's to the market. Let's face it, he's been running 6psi for a while now, and wanting to play with an EMS. Reliability testing continues

I've read you can't go above 10 without a larger crank pulley. The S/C pulley simply gets too small for the belt to grab, and it slips. Besides, I'd rather have a good intercooled turbo setup, with the TRD unit being close to $3k alone.

I had the money saved up for the Shiftgate kit that never came out. I've since then spent it though . So no for me .

Toysrme: TRD doesn't produce any smaller pulleys, and the current charger wouldn't have the flexablity that a turbo would.

But if you know people with a 3vz that would be interested, I could see how good of a deal I could get us all. Hit me up later tonight.
