fans not coming on

94 camry 4cyl was overheating, got that fixed by rodding out the radiator. At first I thought the problem was the fans not coming on but unhooked a wire and they ran all the time and still overheated. now the overheating is solved but the fan still doesnt kick on when it gets to normal operating temp. there are 3 connectors on the top by the radiator, 2 go to the fans and 1 goes down to the bottom of the rad to the temp sensor (i think thats what it is called)which is brand new. the fans will run all the time if the connector to the temp sensor is disconnected. What else would cause the fans to not come on. Does it hurt anything to let the fans run all the time. thanks for any suggestions

no it doesn't toyota designed the system to run that way if the wire did break so it wouldn't overheat the engine unlike some other companys. the fan should only come on when the engine needs it too. sometimes it can take a really long time. usually needs to sit at idle and be a warm summer day but even then somtimes it doesn't always need to come on depending on the cooling system.

so even driving for 15 miles at 65 mph on a 65 degree day, the fan might not need to come on or should it. I know when the a/c is on the fans run.

The fan is connected to a temperature sensor.

Only when a certain temp is reached will the fan turn on.

It only runs on a "as needed" basis.

pretty much unless the wire somehow breaks then it switches them on all the time like i was saying before. have to remember when your driving down the road your forcing air through your radiator so the fan doesn't need to come on.
