The Cam is getting some changes on the inside.
The following are scheduled for this month:
Purchase of new head with some modifications already done... the modifications already done are as follows:
Ported
Polished
Reworked valves (3 angle cuts and hand lapped)
New valve springs
New valve seals
Milled for compression and should run 10.0:1.
New head bolts that are included
Buckets and Shims
Before the head is actually shipped to me, it's getting sent to Engine Logics to have the following done:
New valve seats
2mm oversized valves
Radiused valve job in the seat area
Setting valve lash
Bored 8 mm to correct throat size
Plans for this summer include cam grinds, built fuel system (adjustable FPR/stainless braided tubing and a new walboro 190lph pump) and hopefully by a fall an S54 swap.
So it's official, the cam's going serious with NA on the 5S-FE and my wallet's going bye-bye.
Pics will be posted as soon as the head is received. I don't want to post any pics yet (although I do have pics of the head from the previous owner)
Well, the header and dp are on, but I need to tighten some of the collector bolts up a bit more before it's really 'good.'
I just need to pickup a stubby socket and a 13mm wrench (apparently I have everything but a 13mm )
Lookin' good man! I plan on going the N/A route and souping up a JDM 3S-FE
Pushing 150hp out of a 5S-FE N/A will definately be an accomplishment.
Once I get my S54, I'm looking to push 160-180.
Thanks though, na seems to be such an uncommon route with these engines (except for a couple who have actually built 5S-FE's, which seems to be MR-2 guys).
I'm really looking to just have a fun streetable car.
I'll officially be the first (to my knowledge) to have 2mm oversized valves in a 5S-FE.
The head I'm buying is from one of the best NA 5S-FE tuners (Marco), should be a fun build.

yeah, i dont know whats up with that 13mm shit...got my headers in too, but my engine dont look half as clean as yours
thanks, buddy. I cleaned it really good while I was trying to figure out how to take the downpipe to cat bolts off. I eventually just hacked the bitches with my dremel and about 10 cutoff discs.
I just used some citrus engine-brite (2 coats) and some eagle metal polish to finish it.
let me know how those headers work out for you...i would've liked to have gotten some, but needed a new set of tires for the MR2 along with some exhaust work instead

the bottom pic of your car with the downpipe and catback is just sexy
the catback's stock for now.
I'm still trying to find an exhaust shop that does mandrel bending within the area. I've heard of a shop a town or so over. I'll have to take a trip and see if I could find it (I couldn't find it in the phone book before).
I'm looking to have a side-exit exhaust with no res and flowmaster hush-power II muffler installed, likely using the stock resonator's hanger.
and thanks Keri. Your car's coming along very nicely as well. I'm sure there will be other GB's.
