4th Generation Wheels and springs - Duh

Made the typical newbee mistake even after reading about fifty suggestions by those more schooled. Bought wheel package online to replace V6 alloys. Didn't bother to appreciate the difference between 65's and 45's. Wheels are great-looking (17" Ikon PO8 w215-45-17/Nankang NS-1) but the fender gap that was created kills the whole look. Have goldline springs on the way to rectify the situation. Would probably recommend 55's to anyone not ready or unable to do springs right away. I have no choice. Can't run those wheels with 3+" gap. Next, I'm going to kill my stock struts and replace them within the year all while doing a job twice because I won't lay out the cash now due to cheapness and a steadfast refusal to admit my own stupidity!

looks like you did most of your research at least, but didnt' believe us about the fender gap that the camry has after getting some new shoes....

but I still wouldn't recommend 55 to anybody here....215/50 or 225/45 yes, but not 55

and what are goldline springs? never heard of them...

Tein Gold's? They drop like 0.5 inches and are made for slightly improved ride. You will not blow your struts, these are not really lowering springs at all. The other brand is gold line which supposedly drops like 1.5 inches in which case you will blow your struts within a year or two mabe longer. For 17's I would do 45 series not 55. I personally think a big sedan like a Camry needs 18's on 225/40/18 tires with a two inch drop but thats just me.

It was less about not believing and more about seeing it for yourself on your own ride. If I wasn't planning on lowering the car, 55's would fill in better than 45's or 50's. That's based solely on the look. Camryman may be right about 18's because even with the goldline drop of about 1.5, the wheels still may look small in the fender well. As far as goldlien springs are concerned, they're on the web and were recommended by a local shop (probably based on what they carry). I know most everybody here is on eibachs but I wasn't looking to spend that much and the goldlines researched well compared to some of the cheaper brands and e-bay no-names. Paid about $140 delivered

I'm personally rockin the Tein S-Techs actually. Get the Solara springs, 1.8 inches down in the front and 0.6 in the rear so they cancel out the huge gap in front while keeping the same gap at all four corners. This angles the car sllightly nose down and makes it look downright mean. The spring rates also correct for the understeering that plauges the stock camry. 205 lb/in in the rear and 170lb/in up font. That makes the rear stiffer thus causing it to break loose at the same time or even before the front. The result is a complete change in the suspension geometry from understeer to slight oversteer. A whiteline RSB and Tokico blues with some sticky autocrossing tires are just an amazing setup.
