This is not a insult too all the camry owners. I too own a 95 camry LE. But is see some guy dumping alot of money into it? I know we get alot of crap from those hondas and acura owners. So why invest in something we get so much crap for? HArdley any parts out there or option. So why not get a new car? I staying with my camry because for one this was my first car. And there so much memory in this car. Not to mention all the leg room I need. I would love to hear from you guys
I approach "modding" more from a practical point of view. First and for most, I do it to enhance the performace of the car where I feel the manufacter neglected to address my driving style and habits (ie. suspension). Secondly, to motivate myself to become educated about a subsantial purchase I made in hopes of extending it's life and avoid being taken for a ride by shady mechanics. Thirdly, as a hobby or form of relaxation from other things in life and as an extension of my individuality. These approaches can be applied to any car, not just a Camry.
In my case, it just so happens that my parents have a Camry and seeing as how I view a car as a mode of transportation (and I'm not rich :wink: ) I got myself a reliable, powerful piece of japanese engineering. Or so I thought until the tranny crapped out on me :-( But I decided to get yet another Camry based on reputaion. Call me stupid, but being N. Amer. best selling car for the past few yrs a TRD Supercharger, custom turbo, big brakes, bodykits, custom audio, custom paint, custom interior etc... how am I any different from any other car enthusiast?
I've never met anybody that gave me flack for my ride. Besides, if they did, I wouldn't want to associate with them anyhow. If you didn't read between the lines, what I'm saying is it's about you and not the car! I would rather be an educated car enthusiast driving a Pontiac Sunbird than a moronic 'Vette C5 driving punk. Be proud of your Camry and gain the respect of those you want to befriend by becoming respected within your circle through intelligence and composure not because you've got $10K worth of engine work but don't have the slightest clue how it works!

I saw the TRD camry, and compared it to my stock. Stared and drooled all over the pamphlet with the Red TRD Camry, and thought to myself, "I wish I could afford to make my car look like that." And now it does.

1. I can't afford anything else decent
2. They don't look half bad
3. They are reliable
4. The harder it is to look for parts, the more fun it is to search
5. Roomy
6. Do you see a modified Camry rollin on the streets everyday? They turn heads.
I think its pretty much the same for anybody who mods any car. Just to make it better. I don't have a Camry, I think its cool that a group of guys takes such an interest in one car, a very cool but understated car. I've seen some badass Cams on this board, I hope i see even more in the future.
Sorry for the long post.
Personally I am not trying to diss on honda or acura owners. But I always see so many of them I personally get tired of them. I wanted something different. That something different happened to be my camry. It's my first car and Im 17 now and have one of the most fixed up cars at my school. At first people at my school were like "what are you doing?" Now they think its one of the sickest cars around. I wanted to prove something by doing something different. And I feel that i did.

I usually don't bother explaining to people who asks "why don't you just buy a new car?", or "why do you do that to a Camry?" But thank you Phi for doing what I don't have the patience to do.
In a nutshell, car manufacturers are constrained in their choices based on their perceptions of market demands, the bottom line, and legal requirements. Modifying a vehicle, a Camry or otherwise, places the consumer in the shoes of the manufacturers. For example, if the individual customer does not mind a few more decibals of noise, a less restrictive (and possibly ticket-prone) muffler can be installed.
As for Honda and Accura owners, they are the least of my worries. The most important thing is to get educated about cars and know what you are talking about. Most H and A boys I've met just talk smack. If they laugh at you for doing up a Camry, that only means that they do up their Hs and As because they are so easily influenced by the "mainstream". They know nothing about why people modify their cars.
Also, if you look elsewhere in the world, say Europe and Asia, modifying sedans is nothing out of the ordinary. One only has to look at the entrants in the BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) or the JTCC (Japanese counterpart). Those who laughs at others who modify sedans like the Camry (which did very well in those championships), is ignorant about the greater automotive enthusiast world.
I'm one of those people who "dumped a lot of money into their cars". If I had a choice, I'd do it all over again (though in a more fiscally responsible fashion). What I ended up with is a Camry like none other, because it is a reflection of me. We are all unique, and so should our rides.

I'm SUPER, thanks for asking;

I'm feeling SUPER, no, nothing bugs me;
Everything is SUPER when you're...
i really enjoy being different with what i show through art. i took a lot of flak at school for modding a camry, and those were the days when i was young and stoopid. i knew absolutely nothing about cars or how they worked, and it showed. as soon as i gained knowledge about the basics, it just went from there. it didnt matter what car i had, i could sit down and become friends with anyone who owned a car and enjoyed talking about them. i never "hated" the honduhs, etc, i just never had a taste for them, because i felt i couldnt do something without someone being able to say "i already did it."
i can see it from the other standpoint too, why mod a camry? every now and then i think to myself, "what the f@#$ am i doing?!". after a sudden moment of depression, i remember all the great people ive met, experiences ive had, and all the great knowledge ive gained from just modding a car in the first place. its cool with me if you mod an electric scooter- as long as you know how it works
the only aspect i wish i had more support in is the performance. when it comes to performance, there is only 1 thing- your car is fast or its not. with body styling, there are an infinite number of ways you can express yourself- plus its what leaves the first impression about your car. i like the way my car looks now, and im going to like it much better in about a month
to sum it all up, id say go for it as long as you like what you are doing. you will get the most out of your car, even if it is a camry.
When my dad forced me to buy a camry, i was mad. I wanted a honda or acura. Now im so glad i bought the camry. If i see a modifed honda civic, i think cool car, but when i see a hooked up camry i wanna go meet the guy. My explanation to why there are so many acuras and civics hooked up is becvause they're so popular that parts for hooking them up are soo cheap. I love looking for parts for my Camry It's fun. I love working on my camry, its a hobby. Anyways the bottom line is, i would much rather see a hooked up camry, then a civic, if i look out my window right now ill see 10 hooked up civics. I've only seen 2 hooked up camrys here in kansas City.

hey phi didnt we say the same thing to some aussie guy in toyota-tech.com b4?? hehehehe damn ppl never learn... its not just the car it just so happens that i found a group of ppl that had similar interests as i do.. and infact due to this car i actually know more about the inner workings of my car and to be honest i plan out everymod more carefully now than just getting a more popular car with readily available mods.. think about it.. if u had a honda and had it suped up wat would other car drivers see?? nothing cos u look just like any honda... but if u got a dun up camry they always get a "holy SHIT " effect to them.. isnt that better??

i myself have a 1999 camry and i too am moddifying my car and all the time ive spent on the road ive only seen 3 4th gen camrys that were fixed up big time. it certainly turned my head. the reason why we camry owners do it is because we want to be different. this is why im doing it. its always honda this acura that but when you look at it the camry it is a good selling car the 4th gen was like number 1 selling car for like many years straight but when you just loook at the reasons why, it is obvious that we camry owners want to be diferent in the import scene. so what if everyone clowns us we just believe in what we want and what we want to do with our cars.
