Interested in painting tailights red..over the amber part..
Sup all, i cam across this picture <img src="http://www.members.shaw.ca/liamc/tib/choppedass.jpg"> and i want to make the tailights...like those...do i just buy a can of red spray paint and paint over it..and how did this personal paint over the camry part in the middle tailgihts.....
ok two question...can you get this testors paint at like can tire or wal-mart..instead off the net. And secondly do u spray inside or outside.....and to mask the orange..it's kinda of confusing
There was someone who did take the lense off the housing and painted the inside of the lense red. It looked OEM. I did the outside myself, but wished I had known that it was possible to do the inside 'cause it looks so much better.
He took a heat gun and heated up the "caulking" to remove the lense from the housing. Then he put clear packing tape on the inside of the amber lense, and sprayed it. The tape was used incase he screwed up, so he could take off the tape and remove the paint really easily. Then he use some caulking to reapply the lense to the housing. From the pics I saw, it looked really sweet.
At least that's what I remember- don't blame me if you try and mess 'em up.
Yeah i beleive that was the tony the tiger...yeah it looks...but it sounds complex...taking it outof the housing and reapplying it....so u painted it from the outside...does it look decent at least??? and where did u get it?
Yes, here's a pic. I did the outside, and it doesn't look bad, but it's not the same as the rest of the lense. Use this link for the full pic (it's the 3rd one):

I just used the testors transparent candy apple red paint from WalMart.
So....testors candy apple is the excatly colour as the rest right....is it darker than the other ones b/c you maybe sprayed too many coats...how many coats did u spray on.....
last question...take out the light do u just unscrew the two screws that it?
Just now i went looking for the paint at both wal-mart and can tire...for the testors candyapple red paint. For both stores don;t have them. Is it because you guys refers to Wal-mart in the states? Since i live in Toronto in Canada. So can anyone from toronto...telll me where to find testors candy apple red spray paint...
Yeah, I'm in the states, so it's pretty easy to find.
I put too much on, I think. I don't remember how many coats I used. But in person, in certain lights, I can still sorta tell that there's amber under there somewhere. I think it looks darker in the pic 'cause the light doesn't reflect off it as well 'cause it's a little orange-peely, as opposed to the perfectly smooth stock lense.
It's pretty cheap- under $4 a can. I'd get you some, but I think that the US post office doesn't allow mailing of spray-paints. I have to go there tomorrow, so I'll check that out for ya and let you know.
