Installing Car alarm/remote starter???

I got a remote starter/car alarm off of e-bay, and it looks pretty complicated to install. I've installed car stereo stuff, and know how to do a bunch of maint. on my car, so I do have some experience in the field. But I've never installed a car alarm (with is multitude of wires).
I was wondering if anyone with similar experience has tried installing their own car alarm and/or remote starter? If so, how hard is it, and how long do you think it would take? I've got a 96 Camry coupe. Any suggestions? Thanks!

unless you know what you are doing... i wouldn't suggest DIY. try and find a friend of a friend of a friend that can hook you up. my guy took a good 4 hours to install mine... and he knew what he was doing! i don't have the patience for that many wires. you want to make sure that it's a good job so that it's secure and won't fawk up your starter.

Well, I just shopped around to try and find a place to install my alarm/starter. The two places that would even consider doing it quoted me $200 and $260. Most places wouldn't even quote me 'cause they didn't sell the system and didn't wanna deal w/any liability if anything went wrong. I think I might be able to do it, but don't want to kill at least 8 hours plus the aggrevation of doing it myself. I'd much rather pay someone, but not $200.

Anyone know anyone in Easter Mass. that might be able to help me out w/this? It would be appreciated! Thanks. -Lee

well if you were in houston tx then i might of been some help i've installed a remote starter on my 93 camry. it wasnt so bad, its just the part were you have to cut and splice the wires that took the longest time. the ignition wires are all together so they were easy to find. i think if you just follow the directions provided you should be fine. beats paying 200 bux. well good luck

bad experience

just an input, go to a place if you are going to get it installed pro that you know has a good reputation. i just got a nice alarm put in but the place that did it

1. took a week :
2. left the panels where they ran the wires all f...ed up so i had to redo them :
3. put the radio antena thing for the remote up under my upposltery (spelling) above the sun visor which messed it up i had to fix it. :
4. the last time i took it there i turned my amp off ( i have a switch so my battery wont run down) they turned it on while installing and when i went to pick it up the batt was dead and someone had to come jump me off : :

Wow- a week to install it, and they STILL f-ed it up? That's horrible.
Luckily there's alot of good car stereo places around here in SE Mass- but they either won't touch someone else's stuff, or want too much $ to do it.
