I've been researching my transmission setup a bit and am at the stage where I need to gather my flywheel and clutch.
A few problems though.
For a standard unit, 3VZFE Flyhweel costs AUD$550 from Toyota
Thats a little too much for a STANDARD flyhweel!!!
I've rang up Fidanza and they quoted AUD$625 for a lightned aluminium flywheel, but would take up to 2 months to be shipped from the US!!!
I've been trying to make heads and tales of what can be used.
I understand that alll V6 flywheels are the same from 1988 to 2001, Fidanza part number 130881 for all of them.
I was told that a MR2 3SGTE Flywheel may work..but it has a different part number.
Also, a mechanic told me that the 3SFE flywheel may work..but i highly doubted this.
I was thinking at the price of the stock toyota one..i could just grab the Fidanza one..but itll take too long through the place here in Aus. Does anyone have a way of getting one down here quicker than that..and at a cheap price?? Or even a stock one from any V6 would be cool.
Also, can anyone shed some light on which flywheels can be used on my 2VZ V6..and the corrosponding clutch setup aswell? I've reserched this on TN, but i just need a clear cut answer to get this going..its the only thing apart from the rear mount stopping me from doing this.
Thanks.

Yeah..that junkyard sold the 3VZ notor..with flywheel attatched..soo no go there!!
Was wondering if a Gen 1 3SGE 8 Bolt Flywheel would work?? It has a different part number though. A friend can get me one cheap if it does fit.

Thanks mate!
I think it's a toss up btw either a stock 3VZ one, the Clutchmasters or the Fidanza. (Ordered from lowest to highest price).
Clutchmaster would have to be shipped here..so it may end up being over 600 anyways.
Fidanza is 625 incl shipping and gst to my address.
The stock one is the cheapest option..but only 2nd hand..as Toyota want 590 new!

I'd go stock (or otherwise toyota)... if you go with a lightweight, you'll noticeably loose low end power due to lack of intertia off the crank... lightweight are really only good for track purposes where you are always keeping it in the high RPMs.
I went to my fav wrecker today and asked him if he had flyhwheel and clutch kit for my car. He asked me what motor it was for..and i said..its a Toyota V6..there all the same. He said..in some ways yes..in some ways not. According to this guy..the 2VZ and 3VZ flywheels will interchange in the bolt pattern/offset but are actually different in the diameter..which changes the inertia on the engine. He said the reason for this was to increase torque on the 2VZ for pulling power. He also said that the MR2 3SGTE flywheel is different again..and so are 1MZ..although they MAY interchange. He said that he can get a 2VZ flywheel from an Jap half cut...but i'd be better off putting the 3VZ one in..simply because ill get more power for street use...the 2vz one will give me more pulling power for towing (which im not gonna do).
All up...standard 3VZ flywheel....AUD$110 (Toyota wanted almost AUD$600)
Probly get it machined...so id imagine AUD$80 for that
Clutch kit...AUD$150 (Toyota wanted AUD$825)
Gen 2 I4 clutch line...AUD$20.
So all up will be a very good project money wise.
Should get it done for just under $1200 aussie dollors. (US$950).
And should be done very soon. Last things to research/design will be the transmission mount front, rear and top. Any ideas/suggestions/comments/designs would be great!!!
Can't wait!!!

Sweet! Thats LIGHT dood! My Toda 'Ultra Lightweight Flywheel' is like 9._ lbs. Not too heavy... my clutch just got fucking lost in shipping so I don't know what I'm doing about that. I fucking hate UPS right now!
if you are going to race your car, i'd go with a fidanza flywheel and spec stage 2 or 3 clutch.
if not, go with a used flywheel, spend around 40 or 50 bucks to get it resurfaced, then put it in with a spec stage 2 or 1 clutch or whatever clutch you want.
3sfe flywheel will almost certainly not work.
3sgte flywheel will work, but you need to have the bolt holes welded up and then redrilled to the v6 bolt pattern.
I'd suggest just getting the Fidanza and just waiting for it. its worth the wait.
wraith did not spend 2000 on just a flywheel. i think he paid like 2500 or so on a tilton full carbon race clutch AND flywheel included. all extremely lightweight.
i will be getting a twin plate race clutch and lightened flywheel from exedy for my Coupe, but in my sedan i have a fidanza flywheel and spec stage 3 clutch right now.

False. the lightweight flywheel actually improves low end power and gets the motor into the higher RPMs quicker. I have noticably quicker shifts and quicker revs with the lightened flywheel. Thats all due to less rotating mass. less rotating mass = more power actually transferred to the wheels with less drivetrain loss.

I would research Fidanza flywheels before you get one. They are for race purposes only, and are unsafe for daily-driven street use.
Sarg, i would research that comment a little...
They are great for daily driver purposes. I drive mine every day and dont do too much racing. Many of the guys on here who are into performance have fidanza flywheels. Racerhex and Ratko both have spec stage 3 clutch and fidanza flywheel just like i do. feel free to PM them to get their input.
