Is the alternator located in the same location in a non-a/c 2.5l compared to a 2.5 with a/c. Reason is that I want to bypass my ac, not working and pulley is about to fall off, without having to replace it.
I went and got the non a/c belt and the ribs width is different. I believe the ac, the one i have now, is 7 rib. the one I got was only for a 2 or 3 rib.
Also that link that you sent says crank/pwr steering. Do you have any more advice.
I've done it for the 3SFE, but I had to move the compressor pulley back to clear a path between the alternator and crank pulleys.
The procedure I did is assuming that you're not removing the A/C compressor.
What I did was loosen the compressor and wedge the extra gap to give it enough clearance to clear the path of the belt.
You can use some bolts or a series of washers to wedge in the extra gap.
I loosened it to give about 3/4-to-1 inch of clearance from the A/C pulley.
Once you've immobilized the compressor and you have a clear path between the alternator and crank pulleys, install the non-A/C belt.
I would follow toyrolla's advice about shimming the a/c compressor away from the block. Use some washers on each bolt (theres like 3 or 4 bolts) between the block and a/c compressor.

Are you sure that you bought the correct belt?
The crank pulley --> power steering pump belt is smaller then the crank pulley --> alternator belt.

THAT'S the word I was looking for when I posted...
Well, it took just 10-15 min to do. I didn't have to move the compressor out of the way. About a 1" clearance.
88- The belt that they gave me originally was for the power steering pump. For those interested, the non-a/c belt for the V6 is a Kelly Springfield 370K6 belt from Autozone.
The car does seem a bit snapper now. Hope this helps out. Thanks to all for the responses!
