Oxygen sensor replacement?

I'd like to replace the O2 sensor on my 92 4cyl but I'm kinda nervous about twisting off the bolts in the manifold. Its all rusted REALLY bad. Any tips to remove it?

If i do mess up the bolts, can I just drill and tap new holes fairly easily?

Wink

A few generous shots of WD-40 or similar penetrating lubricant on the bolts should do the trick.

Shoot them the night before and early in the morning.

I use PB Blaster.

Advance Auto Parts and Autozone carry it.

After spraying and waiting warm it up be running car for a minute or two if the engine is cold and just try and break it loose.

If it comes loose, then wait till it is cool to touch before replacing.

The heads of the bolt just look like two clumps of rust, have to turn it with vice grips. You guys still think it will come out?

Yeah, PB Blaster is the stuff. Checker/Schucks/Kragen sells it also.

If the wire/harness is getting in the way their is actually a specific oxgen sensor socket that is made with a slot for the wires to dangle out of.

Good luck.

The new one will come with a flange that bolts on and the sensor screws into this flange right? I guess if i'm real stuck I can just weld that flange in place and screw the sensor in right?

Just dont want to be in a situation where I have the old one out and cant get either one back in.

Don't undo the flange if you don't have to. Your new oxygen sensor will not come with a flange.
