My friend has a 95 Camry LE 100k. She just has a accident. The car hit a curb. The mechnic says the radiator, condenser, and the H-bar frame (the holder of engine and radiator) need to be changed. It cost around $1000. I checked the part price, the radiator cost $130, the condensor $190. But I am not able to find the price of the H-bar frame(may be this is not the right term) They said it's too expensive to get a new one but even the used one will also cost more than $200. Anyone has the idea? Thanks a lot!
Interesting, I was just looking at a gutted Camry the other day and noticed that "H bar" that you are talking about. Never noticed it before. It's free-moving not welded to the frame I mean) and pivots up and down. Honestly if you can find one at the junkyard that isnt damaged from a head on collision then that would be your best bet. $200 for this part is outragous. Most yards never sell it and it goes straight to the scrappers. Shop around. You will find someone that will let you have it for $50. But first, start by asking for it buy its name so they wont try to rip you off. The Gen3 parts list refers to it as the "sub-frame": part # 5100-07010 and you are right. It costs $1092.91 (why even bother with the 91 cents?). It includes the R&I/R&R Stabilizer bar, front exhaust pipe. front undercovers and engine supports. So it seems you get a good amount of stuff. Most of which I am sure you dont need. Hope this helps.
Again, unless you want be be ripped a new one stay away from retail sites. This is what you do (at least this is what i would do). Go to the yellowpages and lookup auto-salvage. Starting from A call all the local yards and ask them how much for the subframe. Some ppl will give you crazy prices but the more you call the better your ballpark figure will be. Soon u will come across someone that is not too far and willing to have the guy remove it for you for a damn good price.
This is your best bet. Otherwise the only place you can get the subframe is from the dealer bcos no-one will have this part. Chances are when you have subframe damage then the car is totallly totalled. And unless you are talking about a Jaguar or something like that.... no one is going to go thru the trouble of fixing such extensive damage.
Just wondering, since you have so much damage will you have to get your car inspected? Does it have a salvage title now?
Unless you are getting the hookup or doing your bodywork yourself Im not sure if its worth it. Plus your car might never drive the same again. Just a thought.
It always gets me how a single part on a $4000 or less car can be worth 1/4 the price of the car. It seems you could make a lot of money by buying a $4000 Camry, then selling subframe for $1000, Engine for $1000 tranny for $500, headlights for $100, Wheels for $25 a pop (thats another $100) Hubs and driveaxles for $200, Interior pieces, Fuel tank for $100, Springs for $100, Fenders for $40, bumpers for $50 a pop, doors for $60 each, stock stereo $50, steering wheel, airbags are like $600 a pop used, seats for $100 a pair, Brake components, window glass, AC, Alternator, PS pump, Steering rack $100....You could make a huge profit with good ole Ebay it seems. Buyer pays shipping
Thanks for all of you guys hekp! The car was new when my friend bought it and right now the body does not have any problem even after the accident. I will be looking for a used subframe...
And just imagine if you have a few acres, bought cars from insurance auctions for $75 a pop and told ppl to come and pull the part themselves if they really wanted. Its called a Junk Yard (aka Gravy Train) and i want in!

Yeah well I have a lot of spare time on my hands. I take 12 credit hours a semester and work an easy job. I always wondered why you could buy a new car for the price Toyota would charge you to replace a tranny and suspension. They told me a new suspension (stock struts and springs) would be $1200 installed. I kindly said F that and bought Tokico struts and Tein springs for a little under $600. Then I got to thinking, you could buy a Camry and part it out for like $10k if you could find buyers for everything. Just a thought.
