Exclamation Clear ECU -Searched

So I got my intake all hooked up. Now what is this rubbish I have read on the web about clearing the ECU to allow it to adapt to the new intake? One site said disconnected the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes clears it and will improve performace since it starts from scratch. Is this true? If not are you supposed to clear it? How?

Thanks in advance guys

its just that... rubbish.

The ecu will reset if you disconnect the battery and let the system drain for a min or two but you don't need to do it for an intake.

you can just disconnect the negative battery terminal for 15 minutes, and then hook it back up. This will completely reset the ECU and allow it to start picking up new data from the sensors from the ground up. The downside to this is that for the first about 100 miles after doing this, you will be down a certain amount of power (it takes a while for the ECU to properly even out the fuel mixture after you completely reset it).

You can also reset the ECU by removing EFI fuse.

Do you recommend doing this when adding a new intake?

Its like rebooting your puter.
If you made changes, do you want it to keep using old values that don't work anymore? I would reset it with an air filter change.

EFI fuse - like mentioned earlier.

your really not supppose to do that.

Your car if it does have adaptive strats it will adjust itself slowly thru your drive cycles. And overwrite your old info. So no real need to reset ECU because it will do the things for you. But if you wanted to reset still you need to disconnect for OVER 30 mins to be on the safe side, all cars are diffrent. Some one on-board memory just incase your batter dies out and what not.

Best way to do things is to leave your battery disconnected overnight.

The idea is for the ECU to relearn driving habits with the intake installed...

at least 10 minutes. my car has larger injectors and you can see it struggled for more then 9 minutes from 200 rpm and raise to 700rpm at exactly 10 minute. I believe the ecu is configerating by analysis all the sensor voltage and making adjustment.

i understand the idea. but the ECU is always learning driving habits. its always changing itself to mechincal wear and tear. This is why i feel resetting the ECU doesn't play too big of a role but if someone wanted to do it then they can. and they should leave it the battery disconnected over night to be more on the safe side. because varying from makers i've seen 5min- 2 hours.
