My battery bit the dust and died. Im looking for a new battery, that would be good for my system as well. I dont know much about it, but I will get it locally.
Any idea what I should look for, cheapest possible too.
Yes optimas are over rated because top SPL competitors run them in banks by the dozen. They are overrated because they are resistant to heat and vibration the biggest threats to a battery. They are deep cycle so they can be discharged completely and recharged without damage. They can be mounted in any position, even upside down and they carry an excellent warranty to top it all off. Run a yellowtop and a big ass system and if the system kills the battery, get a new one. Yeah, optimas suck.
Well I might be getting the Optima. Whats also to say that my battery wont drain real fast again? New alternator fix this?
Nothing except that if its an Optima you throw it on a trickle charger and it will be fine. But yes, if your charging system is messed up you might need a new alt or a regulator. I installed a voltage gauge so that I can keep an eye on my electrical system. With a large system its a good idea. When the engine is off it will read 11.5-12.2 volts. With the engine running it should be between 12 and 14.4 volts depending on how hard the system is hitting and how fast the engine is running. (idle or going down the highway).
Optima is a kick ass battery, trust me they are really nice and hold charge well, i work on my car, with just the stereo and subs running for well over an hour and it does not drain... when i bought it from bluemeanie it had been sitting for a while and needed no charge, ready to go, great battery, i really feel safe with it

I'd get a 1 farad (for 1000 watts) lightining audio cap, and a cheaper battery. If you have car audio a cap is better than spending $, on a fancy battery.
1: Recommending a capacitor...worthless upgrade
2: Recommending Lighting audio products...thats just bad taste everywhere
3: Cheap battery will leave your ass stranded the first time you try and show off your system

exactly, BUY A GOOD BATTERY before a cap... where do you think the charge for that cap is coming from? You need to have a good baseline to power up the rest of your car, and a battery is what starts it all
