I have this nagging problem w/ the sparkplug wireboot for the #4 cylinder (or #1, the one on the passenger side). Everytime I take off the wire, the boot at the bottom comes off and gets stuck on the damn spark plug. Anyone have this problem? Are there any adverse effects of leaving it off?

I've done that...3x. It does it to every single set..and its just that one plug. At first I thought it was cuz there was oil leaking or whatever, but when my headgasket blew and got the block replaced, it still did it! So its done it to 3 sets of wires and 2 engines

I just ran into the same problem with my daughters 94 4 cyl. Buying new wires wont get the end of the boot out of the recessed hole. I need to change the plugs and the boot wont let me get the socket on the plug to remove it. How do i get the end of the boot out of the hole? any help is appreciated
What I ended up doing was getting a long piece of hose that fits around the top part of the park plug (I think it was a heater hose), snaking it down the hole and around the spark plug. Once its snug around the plug, then turn the hose to unscrew the plug and the boot end should come up along with the spark plug. Try to straighten out the hose first, it makes it a lot easier
You're using Bosch spark plug wires, aren't you? If you are, get another brand..this problem only happened to me with Bosch wires.

^^ I dunno if that would help. I've tried doing that prior and it still happens. The problem seems to be that the adhesive that's used on the boot melts off.

actually this happened to me too. im not sure if it was on my camry or tacoma but it wasnt just 1. it was all 4. i just bought some really long-nosed pliers and pulled it off.
luckily for me i dont take mine off too often and my grandfather owns a parts shop.
I've had that problem happen to me before on the 3rd plug. Best bet, unless you're going to upgrade the spark plug wires to bigger ones, get ngk wires. I haven't had that problem scince I've had them. They're a little better then most of the other ones too.
