Gen5 Does your 2az-fe sound like this? -Sound clip-

Hey
to all gen5 2.4l 4cyl (2az-fe) owners:

Does your engine sound like this while in idle?
My 2005 camry seems to be pretty loud with obvious "clicking" and slighly audible "tapping" noise.

Sound clip- Right click, save-as (698K) <-Rigth click & save-as (Thanks jaguar for the help)

or

Sound Clip on xanga<-clicking takes you to a xanga website. Please wait till the soundclip loads as a background music.

I recorded this clip with the hood open, close to the engine.
Engine was fully warmed up, have 976miles. Outside temperature was 47degrees F.

thanks.

AznVR4, I do notice the clicking sound when i accelerate- but thats when i open the windows. In the cabin with the windows shut, I barely notice the clicking sound- just hear the engine whine. 2.4l camry accelerates smooth, but it seems like the engine does not sound as smooth- rather a little rough.

yeah i know what you mean, I have a 04 2.4 with 16500 miles and I think im going through the same problem your having, to me when my window is up i do hear it if i really concentrate on it, its comming from the passenger side. when the window is up and if i concentrate on the sound it is in a lot tone of a rattle, with the window down its more noticeable. I am going to have that checked out ASAP when i have the time. Hopfully my Warranty would cover the problem that I am having. Does any one know what Basic Warranty cover?

The warranty of every toyota veihcle is:

Basic: 36months/36,000 miles
Powertrain: 60months/60,000 miles(engine, transmission/transaxle, front-wheel drive, rear wheel drive, seatbelts and airbags).
Rust-Throuhg: 60 months/unlimited miles(corrosion perforation of sheet metal).

Maybe the engine noise is the "character" of camry. In streets i hear rav-4 with 2az-fe making the same sound- and even corolla's 1zz-fe engine(not XRS) have similar sound. Are toyota engines normally like this? Anyone else have this sound?

Cool

The ticking is either going to be the lifters being slapped the cams, or the valve's slapping the valve seat. (lift adjustment is too small in either case)

The whirring IDK. If I were guessing it'd be something like a timing belt idler pulley /cam sprocket /one of the accessory belt pulley / alternator / hydrolic pump / water pump whirring around. Not really much to narrow that down, sorry!
