This weekend I'm going to replace my spark plugs and wires (yep, I skipped my 150,000 mile service 8) )
What should I go with? My brother mentioned Bosch Platinums and split-fires as some possible choices -- he didn't mention anything when it comes to wires.
I don't want to have to special order anything -- it's AutoZone, PepBoys, or bust.
split-fire makes good spark plugs... then again thats all i used when i did motocross... kinda like had them as a sposor (sorta)... hehe but uh... im about to change a buncha that stuff too. plugs, wires, fuel filter, injectors, etc...

I have a 2000 4cyl. camry and put in denso iridium spark plugs. I like it a lot. It was a lot better than the factory ones. I also have sparkcotech 9.2mm spark plug wires as well. I can feel more power as well. But other people will recommend magnecor wires or similar ones like that.
I bought Accel 300+ Thundersport plug wires recently in blue colour - $100 Can $ (on sale a couple months ago).
Accel makes them OE diameter instead of the 8.0mm so that you can hook into the factory distributor cap. Keep that in mind with the thicker advertised wires - you may have trouble if there is no matching dist cap to buy with them.
I also bought the Denso Iridium/Platinum plugs from the Toyota dealer. They are a platinum electrode coated in iridium. About $12 each Can $.
Hope that info helps

How good r those Denso Iridium/Platinum plugs? BTW how much r Iridium plugs... $16 a plug?
There's always been controversy surrounding this topic. There are those that say OE plugs are fine and "fancy" plugs are not worth it. Same skool of thought on wires as well.
You have the choice of either using OE/manfacturer recommended plugs and save yourself a few bucks. Some would argue that the fancier plugs (ie. iridium, split) provide a hotter, more intense spark thus increasing HP and efficiency. I personaly don't buy that. Compressed gas doesn't require a great deal of heat to ignite it. The only good thing I see coming out of expensive plugs is their longevity, thus requiring infrequent replacment and reducing labour, especially on those V6s.
As for wires, ppl claim that their wires carry more cuurent to the plugs increasing HP aswell. Bull! Any old bunch of insolated copper wires (simply put) will do, provided they are in good condition without any corrosion or cracks in the insolation. It you wanna have a nice lookin engine bay, then go for it.
All in all, I'd say stick to OE plugs or maybe go slightly better (ie. iridium) but I wouldn't buy into all that marketing BS.
While we're on the topic, I hold the same beliefs when it comes to those spark "magnifying" boxes aswell (ie.MSD).
What it basically comes down to is
-do you think these products actually do what they claim?
-are you willing to pay extra for these claims?
i dunno about all you all but, i work at an auto parts store called MURRAY'S DISCOUNT AUTO PARTS STORE, based here in michigan, some in ohio, and some in chicago...i think NGK's are pretty good..and so are bosch...prolly the best are the bosch platinum +4's...because not only just the TIP is plantinum but the tip and all the way down to the core or ceramic part...so thats going to give you the best spark...plus they last 100,000 miles...i can't say as others...but i know champions plat's...are shit...just the tip is platinum......champion spark plugs are shit!!!!! do not buy them. all there good for is lawnmores...keep them outtta the auto....
oh yea. they will acutally give you better gas mileage...and maybe a few more horse power, nothing tooo serious tho....and u would truely notice it...on longer drives...no stop and go traffic...it is a better spark with less resistence.....duh...the more gas your car burns the more efficent it becomes...more gas burn will give you more power...less burned gas is hence wasted...
Wow -- so many responses! Okay -- so I want to get the Accels, but it looks like they're only Honda/Nissan/whatever-except-Camry-specific.

This is NOT where I bought mine, but these are the correct ones for the 1992-96 5S-FE Camry & Celica's.
The come in Blue, Red, Yellow and Black (I think) - mine had P/N 7953B (for blue)

I have heard somewhere (tv or a magazine) in the last 6 months, that those fancy +4 tipped plugs are prone to one or some of the little tips breaking off (faulty welding) over time/use. Just something to keep in mind - the more bits and pieces they add, they more they have to fiddle to attach them
Smaller diameter iridium and/or platinum electrode tips provide a more concentrated spark body, and using less resistive wires (such as the 300+) will direct more of the stock energy to the plug, therefore you should be at least burning the fuel faster and more completely - which should in theory give you SOME sort of performance increase. It can't be bad Besides, the stock wires cost $10 more and you can't get colours - I wanted blue :p
Cheers,

Are you talking about the NGK, Bosch, or the Champion plugs?
And, do all Champions stink (including the plain copper or even the truck-plugs) or are you just refering to the platinum?
