Hi, I've always been curious about the O/D gear and after reading some of the posts on here about tranny's and all that I decided to question. In the mannual, it says to only use it when going up steep hills and whatnot, but then another person posted about using it on the highway/interstate (for our American friends) going 60mph. Isn't O/D a lower gear? When I turn it on going like 100-120km, it makes the engine rev. much higher, I always assumed this was worse for the car?

Nice to see you postin' Mark. Welcome

I think you've got it backwards. Having O/D ON allows you to engage the next gear up, thereby reducing the RPM. I leave me O/D on all the time. The only time I turn it off is when I'm hauling my 60ft, twin blade speed boat out to Lake Ontario

OD on = uses all 4 gears for fuel econoly

OD off = uses only 3 gears for more torque but worse on gas.
