Help - Diagnosis Needed

Camry Wagon 1973 - good condition

I hope you can give me your suggestions before, I call in the "big guys" who charge the "big bucks".

Yesterday, tried to start car after 1 week of inactivity in -10C conditions. Battery dead as dodo - couldn't even jump start on hill.

Today, after 3 failed buddy starts with jump leads, buy new battery. However, only certain sihns of life.

- No start up sequence on dash
- No starter motor at all, not even ticking
- Head lights work
- Interior lights/horn/hazard lights work
- No HVAC controls work.

- checked and replaced every fuse

- and finally.....evidence that car had been broken into by "considerate" thief. No window damage, coin holder pilfered, failed attempt at removing radio and failed attempt and stealing car (no battery life) and fuse box cover was on floor.

- quick check of ignition cord under steering wheel suggests it still intact.

Please your ideas.

Many Thanks

1973 Camry Wagon ?

Do you mean 83 considering that was the second year they made the Camry ... or 93 cause they didn't come in wagon til gen2, gen 1 was only sedan and a 5dr hatch and gen2 doesn't have any years ending in "3"

As far as your problem goes... if they were fucking with your fuse panel to hot wire it they could have fried something, I say check all the fuses and the wire leads going in and out of the fuse box.
They could have also jumped the wrong two spots and fried something in the ignition or the other fuse box under the hood. Electrical can bee tricky, you almost have to bring it to someone who a) knows what they're doing and b) has the paitence to trace all possibilities.

good luck

Help the plot thickens

Thanks for all your help and suggestions at looking at the fuse/relay box. This yielded some helpful and surprising results. This is where I need your expert eye.

- I checked the bank of 9 fuses (3x3) for blow outs. They are all intact.
- The Alt 100A fuse appears to be blown. I cant seem to remove this with my hand and tried with pliers only to break the plastic top.
Question: is the whole fuse (i.e. box plus plastic top) supposed to come out or do I take the plastic top off and remove the "inners".
- Horror of horrors, two relays/fuses seem to be missing (see picture). These are the "Engine Main" and "Fan No1".
Dumb Question: are these integral to the car and is their absence the cause of my problem. Moreover, why would a car thief have any interest in these 2 relay/fuses, is it a method of hot-wiring?

Once again many thanks for your patience

My guess is that someone was after parts.

You can run without the fan, but watch the temp.

I'd just get both.

Never seen the 100A fuse link, the 30's and 40's come out easily (the whole thing c/e plastic top.
