Can somebody tell what are the difference between the 97-99 camry and the 2000-01 camry!
I see that some TN'ers type Gen4 and some type Gen4.5! Please let in on the secret!

.5 generations are the tail end of that particular run of cars - usually have small differences. Generally late ones are better than earlier ones, like a 96 compared to a 92, but both in the same model run.

97-99 is just the first half of the new generation, 2000-01 are the tail end, so some bugs may have been worked out but there are NO major differences.

What I dont understand is that some things wont fit a 97-99 camry but it will fit the 2000-01 camry and visversa. Aren't the 97-2001 the same body style excepted for the engines? I have a 99 V6 camry, and was doing some research on it, found differences between the years that I mentioned above. This is the first time I ever owned a toyota. All I ever owned was nissans in all my years of drving. I searched but didn't find the answeres that I'm looking for. Maybe somebody may tell me a little more. Thanks to MESCALITO for the reply. Anything helps!

one noticable difference are the tail lights, one version has sloped lights, and the other version's lights cut staright across the back, with no slope...kinda hard to explain, refer to the pics:

this one is of the flat straight tails

and this is the version of the curved ones, now i dont know which is gen4 and which is gen4.5 tho

Damn, your right! I have never noticed that until now. All the camry I've past up on the freeway, I never realized the shape of the taillights. Thanks for the reply felkajamine!
Now I have to go and take a look at my tail lights.
