I purchased a set of borbet wheels from Tire Rack (there on the way), has anyone any experence with them? (borbet or tire rack) also they have +40mm offset. I know stock is +38mm so are they going to tuck in or stick out?.........2mm, WTF. I guess I should have asked before the purchase. BTW I bought Borbet typeCa Silver painted 15x6.5 and 205/65/15 Generals The camry is a 96. Thanks for any information.......Joe
I have a set of Borbet Type E 15x7 and I love them. I'm using them as the summer wheels with Bridgestone Potenza 205/R15 tires. The wheels are light weight so my wheel+tire weight is the same as the OEM 14" steel+tire!!! They also look great on the Camry. They match the car classic lines.
They are cheap for their quality and look.
Yes they stick out more than the stock but they are still under the fender. The car looks a lot much better this way.
I hope that you asked for the centering rings that you'll need.
Yes I know what you mean about the wife. Camry is also my wife's car and she loves the Borbet wheels. I'm going to change the wheels for the summer and she will be happy.
About TireRack: I did a lot of business with them (~$5000) mostly tires but also wheels and brake pads, lines and rotors. With the lines it took years to get the Goodridge to make them the right way but in the end I got what I wanted.
The story is long so I'll try to not bore you. It started long ago in 1999 when I tried to get some real break lines. I tried many products (of course me paying the shiping both ways) and all where made for Honda's kind of mounting hardware. I wanted the real ones so I kept searching until I saw a brand new TRD catalog with the break lines for the Camry. Those lines never become available but I found out from TRD in CA that they were made by Goodridge. So I called Goodridge and I found out that they actually made the prototypes for TRD but because of some reasons they did not go through with the production. At that time TireRack has just posted for the first time Goodridge lines for Camry. I knew Goodridge products because I'm using them on my motorcycle and they are good.
So I ordered the lines from TireRack and it took a few months to get them because they were actually not manufactured yet. When I finally got them they were the same Honda style that I have tried before. I sent them back to Goodridge and after a few months of being passed from one guy to another I finally got someone to make a custom set with OEM like hardware. I of course sent detailed technical drawing of the OEM lines plus picture of the lines off the car and of the calipper strut and hard line fitting in the car. After two weeks I got the lines but they where off by 0.8mm and did not fit. It took another few months to get the right ones made. The one set that I got is the one that you now can buy from TireRack. The story ends in 2003.
Along this entire ordeal TireRack was supportive. After years they were still willing to give me a refound for the lines if I would have asked for it. That's years not 30 days plus restocking fee that you usually get on the Inet.
But I wanted the lines not a refound so I got them.
Thanks for the responses to my concerns. I recieved the wheels and tires last pm (thursday) I ordered them the sat before! (fast shipping) Recieved everything as ordered. The wheels fit perfect, perfectly balanced, and look just like they did on the car as they did on the Tire Rack web site. I'm pleased! They will certainly have my recommendation and business in the future............wife still isn't very happy, but WTF, she married a car guy!!
