I have an open air performance filter, and my car kinda lags in low end, so i want to get it back. I want to do a cold air intake system, but i have a new idea. I went to autozone and they sell this 45 degree bent polished universal intake pipe
Now i was wonderin if any of you that own a gen 2 camry think this bend will fit in the engine bay? then i plan to connect my afm to the end of this pipe, then buy 3" exhaust piping from autozone and just connect it to the other side of the afm with couplers, and swing it around into my fender, then connect my air filter to it. the reason for exhaust piping is cuz they sell it for cheap, and it comes pre-bent in several measurments, so it wll make the job easier swingin it around into my fender. What do you think?
a pod? why dont you just take the pod off, extend from where it currently is.. and pop teh pod on the end somewhere out front in a high pressure area? that of course would ideally be the tip of your bumper.. but 2nd best area woul dbe your front grille opening... which woul dbe some tricky pipe work.. but anywhere outfront is better then in bay... unless its pouring with rain.

OD switched off, even when not in 3rd results in major power loss/rpm drop.

do you have an exhaust? if so that might be why you have no low end torq.
but as for the intake if you are trying to mickey mouse your own out of others you can buy, why not do a CAI.with out proper tunning a short ram doesnt do much.
Doesn't look like enough of a bend, I think you're going to have clearance issues with the shock tower. I personally would just order up some mandrel bent pipe from JC Whitney and go from there... that's how I'm doing my short-ram...

thanks man, but which one should i choose? I know i need to get the 180 degree mandrel bent ones, but theres a lot to choose from. Which one is the one i need to make the custom CAI for my 3sfe? thanks
grab a measure and start measureing wher eyou run your pipework may not be the same as where others do.

thanks 88 LE!!! You are the man! you are very knowledgable when it comes to gen 2 camry's, and i cant thank you enough! thanks everyone who helped me out! Now when im cuttin the pieces out, what tool should i use to cut them out? Can i use a hand saw? Also, where can i get silicone couplers for cheap to connect the piping? thanks
Home Depot is your friend Just get rubber pipe clamps that match the pipe diameter from the plumbing section and you're good to go. If you need to trim them down a really sharp XActo blade will git-r-done.

The best tool to use is a metal cut off saw.
If you don't have one a hacksaw or air powered cut off tool will work.
I got a question for those who have done a custom CAI to their 3sfe, did you feel any gains? Im sure i will feel a slight gain, but does it pull harder then it does with just a short ram intake like i have now? Where will i feel the gains mostly? low end? top end? thanks
