Just checked my IAC

I've had this little problem of the idle 'bottoming out' when i stop from a long/hot drive. Doesn't stall or anything, but RPM's drop a bit and the car shudders.

Now..people hace been saying to clean the IAC and see how you go. So i did that. Was very "sticky" and mucking, so it needed a good clean. The car now idles a little higher and smoother!! YAY..however..it still shudders after a bit of a drive like it used to. If i'm stopped..it makes it worse if i shift from D to 2 or L (especially L). Checked out the TPS aswell and thats fine.

What else could it be?

Thanks.

Did you clean the IAC while it was connected to the throttle body? What did you spray it with? I'm in the process of diagnosing my iac valve by jumping the terminals in the diagnostic unit and may eventually test the resistance on the valve connector. Haynes said to not spray carb cleaner into the IAC valve so I was wondering what is safe to use.

No..i removed the whole unit. 1 electrical connector and 3 screws.
When off... i open it up and cleand all the parts inside with thinners on a rag.
Ingenious design i must say!!! It works using maganetic fields..and spins in or out to close or open!

But...still didnt do the trick...

Maybe you need a new IAC valve? Did you check your plugs and wires? Check also the torque on the nuts that hold down the valve cover. Someone else just fixed their idling problems by tightening the 4 nuts that held down the valve cover. It's visible as soon as you take off the spark plug wires. Might be different for you I'm not sure.

Did you replace the gasket that goes between the throttle body and IAC valve before you assembled it back together?

Valve covers are all good..i replaced all of my seals on the engine incl. the valve cover ones. Also got brand new spark plug leads etc.
There was only a small rubber o-ring on the IAC, which was still good condition, so i just put it all back. Theres no leaking or anything, i tested it for leaks with earmuffs and a tube connected to them. haha.

Dunno..suppose the IAC could just be worn out. Didnt seem like it when i took it off tho.

What year and how many miles do you have on your camry? Try bridging the terminals in the diagnostic unit located on passenger side next to the suspension mount. Bridge TE 1 and E 1 together with a paper clip. If the rpm rises from regular idle to 900-1300 for about 5 seconds, IAC valve is fine.
