Now that I am back in the game I am ordering parts for my next gen3.5
I have always been confused about the Tokico struts, hence why I never put them on my car. Are just the insert enough or what? What do I need to get and what parts to make them fit?
??? I don't get it, man.....you had the knowledge to make custom brackets to fit those supra rotors, but you still aren't sure about thest things? beats the hell out of me....
but to answer your question...
the inserts are just the catridged used if you have serviceable struts- you just remove your stock cartridges and put in the tokico ones
if you don't have serviceable struts, you have to buy full replacements, which tokico also has.
if you don't have serviceable struts but you want inserts, then your best option would be to go searching through junk yards to find a set of used ones

Thanks Eye 8, you've been very helpfull today. You don't happen to know what the 96 has do ya?
Caliper brakcets are easy, struts are another story!
BTW, since you mentioned caliper brakcets, if I do go ahead an get the car ( need loan first! PLEASE COME THROUGH!!!) it has rear discs. Can you smell rear brake upgrade anyone?

I have a '92 & '94 & my understanding is that if the Camry is made in USA then you need the Sealed Strut (no inserts), & Tokico does not offer a part for those years.... I will have to go to KYB struts at TireRack... Bob
Your 96 should, and prolly will, have sealed struts.
the early gen3's had non-sealed and the later, sealed. Its 93-94 that makes up the grey area. When they switch parts like that there is no specific cut off date, they just keep using whats in stock at a given factory. When the next load of new parts comes in they just get seamlessly integrated into the production line.
You can use either on any gen3 or 3.5, if you choose to go with the inserts you'll have to buy the housings if you don't already have them from toyota or a recycler. ...or vice versa you could get sealed struts and just not worry about it.
btw it has nothing to do with Tokico, its a Toyota thing. You gotta get the right part regardless of the brand.
Bmaintz
Tokico makes inserts as well as sealed struts for the gen3 Camry (92-96)

If you go with Tokico, you'll need the full strut for a 95-96 Camry. The full strut also fits 92-94. I had to go through this last August when I changed mine.

I was told by several suppliers & TOKICO itself that sealed struts are not made for my Camrys..... I gave up & started looking at KYB struts.... Bob
Somebody's full of crap. Full Tokico struts are made specifically for 95-96 Camry's, and these full struts fit 92-94 also, because they've been on my car for the past 8 months or so.

Well Tokico is right. They don't make sealed struts for 92 - 94 Camry.
However Tokico makes sealed struts for 95 - 96 Camry and you can use them on 92 - 94 Camrys.
Great, glad to hear about the Tokico working on my '92 & '94 ('95'-96')....
Anyone else used the 95-96 Tokico sealed struts on the 92 to 94 Camrys, any rub problems ...... Can someone tell me the differance in the struts...________ Bob
^ One of them is a cartridge and the other is a full replacement strut.
Cartridges can only be used if you have serviceable (non-sealed) struts. You take your stock struts apart, dump out the internals, and reuse the strut housing (the catridge goes inside of it).
I have had the struts off both my 92 & 94 (replaced with used struts), So much labor that I would rather spend more for a better strut & be done with it..... How long (miles) do the Tokico last??_____ Bob

I've got the full strut for the 3.5 on my 93. It rides really good, I have the Eibachs in there too. I can't give you a number right now, but I can only stick one finger in on the passenger side, and have a little bit more room on the drivers side. I think the springs do more to lower. I still haven't installed my camber bolts.
