Question Brake Job Needed???

Hi guys,
I am just so annoyed by the squeaks noise on my car, but once i apply the brake slightly the noise is gone.....is that mean i need to re-machine the disc and change the brake pad???

Sure sounds like it. You may need to replace the rotors if they have been machined before. Only way to know for sure is to have it checked, or check it yourself.

I would first try removing the brake pads and spraying some "disk brake quiet" on the backs of the pads. This type of noise, that goes away when the brakes are applied, is usually caused by the pads actually vibrating in the calipers. The "disk brake quiet" is a tacky substance that makes them stick to the calipers instead of vibrating. Permatex Disk Brake Quiet is a brand I have used for years with good results.

I had the same problem. I took the brake pads and rotor off. Cleaned off the rotors and emergency brakes very well with brake cleaner. Then I used some anti squeak stuff on the pads and put them back in the bracket. That was almost a month ago and I haven't had a squeak ever since. Took a couple of hours. I took my time and went slow.

I used to squeak ALL THE TIME. I tried everything until one day I just got fed up and bought Ceramic Brakes. The cost a little more but they're worth it. They come with the little shims that are suppossed to suppress the sound. I have not squeaked once since I bought em.

In Chicago, the Bosch ceramics are only about $5-10 more. Aren't they supposed to last longer as well?

I have ceramics on the rear. I just had regular semi-metallics but the pad became separated from the backing plate on the brake pad and they exchanged them. Only thing they had in stock was the ceramics so they did a straight exchange for them.

i have new ceramic pads as well. they are alot quieter than whatever was on there before. in my opinion its worth the extra $$$. if you wanted you could even order akebono ceramics from rockauto.com. i believe the akebono's are what the factory uses. long life expectancy from these pads too.

That separation thing happened to me too. The ceramics do last longer. I got my front ceramics for $40 and my rear for $35

Sounds like air in the system, or possibly a leak somewhere. If you not sure then your better off taking it to a shop. Shouldnt cost much to just have them check it out and at least tell you whats wrong. Its no big deal if your car dosent start, but someone can get hurt if it dosent stop when you hit the brakes.
