i want to run i 12" audiobahn alum12q on an audiobahn 1200 watt amp and run my components on a jvc 400watt amp how would any of you guys run this setup? is 4awg wire gonna be enuff? do i need a cap or up grade my alternator and/or battery?
Your battery and alternator should be fine, as long as they haven't given you trouble.Get a 1 farad cap and you'll be good to go. 4 gauge is good enough.

Well 4 gauge should be fine....but 2 would be better :)
I say go ahead and invest in some 2 gauge. Not only will it free up the flow, but if you decided to add another amp, you will save money in the long run. I am pushing just about 1400 RMS....and using 2 gauge to the cap...and 4 gauge from the cap to the amps. I agree with the previous post....you should be fine with just a 1 farad cap....but as I have said before.....a cap is just a bandaid....not a real fix. If you continue to suffer a lot of dimming, first increase the battery grounds....then maybe get an optima battery or any deep-cycle dry cell, and lastly change or upgrade your alt. Good luck!

thanks alot guys, you have all been helpful. i decided to run the four gauge for now and get a cap. my budget was wasted on the audiobahn 1200 watt amp and the audiobahn 12" 1000 watt sub. i cant afford to upgrade the electrical system yet. but i will consider those options in the near future.

Depends. If you can find it off ebay for cheap and do it yourself, it will run ya somewhere around $100-$125USD. Having a shop do it will cost nearly double that. Shop around. Make sure the shop is reputable. That goes for any mod. Just the trunk .....check this...
