Sticking Throttle in Cold, Help!

Hey guys,

I'm fixing up my car to be in prime shape before I sell it. It has one problem, in colder weather, below 40 F the throttle sticks. In other words, I hold the pedal down at say 3000 RPMS, just an example, and when I let go it stays there for about .5 sec before the revs start to go down.

What is causing this? Throttle body? Cables? Pedal?

What should I look for, and what can I do to fix it?

My engine is the 5sfe

Thanks

next cold spell start it up and raise the hood and move the cam the throttle cables are onto by hand and see if it still does it, this will eliminate the cable binding from the s enario

If you haven't already done it, I'd get some throttle body cleaner (that's sensor-safe) and try cleaning out your throttle body. When my TB is dirty my throttle sticks as well, especially in cold weather...

Follow dj14901's advice and clean the throttle body. Be sure to have someone hold the gas pedal to the floor (or floor it manually by the linkage under the hood and jam a screwdriver in the linkage) to hold the butterfly valve in there all the way open. The valve will now be in a horizontal position exposing the back side of the valve. Be sure to clean this side thoroughly too. I use the spray throttle body cleaner and work my finger along the backside of this valve to loosen the stubborn goop. Also be sure to clean the throttle body thoroughly where this valve seats when it is back in it's closed (vertical) position. This will most likely solve your problem.
