Hey guys! I got a problem! Hope you guys can answer it for me.
My right rear speaker is not working, no sounds at all. I'm not sure if the speaker is dead or if the cable is loosen? Do the rear speakers come with one cable to the CD player or each speak has different cable. If they come with one cable, i can say that the right rear speaker needs replacement. What do you guys think? Thank you!
1. a quick way to test if it is you wiring of the speaker is to take another speaker and with bare wires touch the connectors at the car speaker connector ends. Use a small regular speaker like your mini hifi stereo speaker. If you get sound from the speaker, then the answer is its your cars speakers. If you don't then its the wire. By the way don't worry about positive and negative into your speaker b/c there isn't enough power there to cause any harm to you speaker, it will just sound kinda funny. If thats the case consider reversing the wires. And try that
2. If you have one of can get one, use a volmeter to measure flow of current at the speaker ends, this is another way. obviously if there is a reading then the wire is fine and you speaker is out. If not then its the wire.
Possible solutions
1. speaker wires run on the drivers side of the car, just trace the wire and made sure that nothing has pintched it and caused it to split. if so replace the wire from that point.
2. Test the connections. I have an 02 cam and all the speaker wires run out drivers side where your left foot rests. If you take off the plastic thingy you should see a whole bunch of wires and connections. Just move them around some until you hear sound from your speaker. If that doesn't work.
3. Pull out your HU (head unit) and find the speaker wire that runs the right rear which should be the connector with just for wire coming out of it. Shake that around and see if it works.
4. If not cut it and test it again with your test speaker or voltmeter. if it works then just run new wire from there all the way to the back. If it doesn't then you will probably have to take it to an audio shop and get them to take a look at it.
If all else fails think of it as time to purchase a new HU.you should pay about $120 for a nice HU, $30 for the instalation kit, if you want to make your life easy another buy some quick connects from radio shack to hook up all the wires that will run you about $12 depending on the type you get, this is better than tape. Just make sure to get the insulated kind. Other wise you will short circuit something, and thats a beach.
hope this help and sorry for spelling and what not, im typing in the dark my roommate is sleeping.
can you fill me in on what happened with ur testing? I have a 2000 Camry XLE and i was installing new speakers through an amp (been using the amp for a sub for a while, no probs), and i kinda lost all the sound that goes to the rear. there's no signal going to the rear speakers at all, even when old speakers connected directly to the wires skipping the aftermarket amp. i didn't touch anything in the front though, like the stock amp or anything.
It's very dramatic i could tell you guys! First, i did what "Dj-torn" told me to do. i used a hifi speaker to test that non-working speaker, but there's no sound either, so i thought there might be something wrong with the wiring, so i unhooked the CD-player (took me half hour unscrew the bolts). made sure that every cable connected to the CD-player correctly. Since i couldn't find any problem, so i gave up and decided to let it non-working. I have thought about "Dj-torn"'s possible sulotions which to "trace the wire and made sure that nothing has pintched it and caused it to split. if so replace the wire from that point." But i'm not that crazy and i don't have such skill to do that. So finally i grabbed all the stuff and decided to leave. But i wanted to test one more time so that i could competely give up. Dramatic enough! when i touched the connector end of the non-working speaker with the hifi speaker's bare wires, it sounded back. The stock speaker sounded back! I really don't know why. Anyway, it's working now! Very unbelievable!
hey 99cam,
can you fill me in on what happened with ur testing? There were an amp and two big speakers in my trunk before i bought this car from my cousin. But he took all of them with him and left me some no-use wires still in my car. i hadn't realized my rear speakers were not working since i replaced a new Sony MP3-CD player. The guy who did the installation for me asked me if i would have an AMP later. I said no because i'm not that crazy and i think he did uplug something from my old CD player. After that my rear speakers were working properly until i got the right speaker non-working problem yesterday. But when i checked the back of my new Sony, everything was fine. every cable was connected correctly. I think your problem is similar to mine, both have been conncetd to the AMP system and you might need to check the back of your CD player to make sure everything is fine or you might put everything back to the original (stock) setting see what happen. I'm not sure though, hope this may help you.
