ok, I just ordered 6 168/194 equivlent white LED's for my gauge cluster and while in the neighborhood of everything am looking to fix my ashtray, where the bulb has burned out.
do any of you know how to replace the bulb or what bulb size it is for a gen3?
I tried searching and in all the threads of bulbs I could not find anyone state what size bulb the ashtray is... nor could I find anyone saying that you couldn't replace it.
if possible, I'd like to swap it to a white bulb as well.
thanks
as a side note: I'm thinking of renting a spring compressor and just tossing my springs in until I get my new struts... (I can't stand idle parts), I'm also installing my new head unit soon (blaupunkt monte carlo) all this week (or so I'm planning).

I've actually heard that when you rent from checker or autozone or whatever all you gotta do is make a deposit. When you return the item you get all your money back.
I'd think you'd have to pay like maybe a few bucks each day but After my friend rented one he got all his money back so i dunno.
If you do get a bulb for the ashtray - post.
My neighbourhood dealer said I would have to buy some assembly just to get that bulb. I did that with the cigarette lighter and am just tired of buying shit I don't need. The bulb sits in some strange banyonet mount, hardwired of course.
thanks, amerikim.
what I may do is buy a new (junkyard) ashtray with a working bulb and use it for the time being and just remove the bulb from my old one and see if I can find a match to the bulb.
I'd really like to get a white bulb/led in there. I'm sure if it comes down to it, I could very easily wire in a different bulb. perhaps I'll just figure out the size of it and wattage and just hard-wire an LED in.
I just realized the bulb is not on the ashtray itself but instead the paneling on the car. I'll get out my smaller screwdriver later tonight and unscrew it and inspect. I'm sure I could probably fit a new bulb in there and solder it in.
Well, I finally found a post addressing my question (how to replace the ashtray bulb), but it's been dormant for almost a year....any word on just what has to be done for this? Is it indeed a hardwired bulb? Is it even worth the BS to replace?
I just changed my ashtray buln 1 hour ago actually, #74. I'm changing most bulbs right now.
It's like replacing a 194 Bulb. Pop old one out, push new one in. You need to remove the drivers and pass lower dash, need to also remove the center storage.

on my gen 3 it was a 74. you can access it by removing the u shaped trim piece and the radio/compartment thing as a unit. you should see the base with wires going to it. i dont think the base is supposed to come off the dash frame but i pulled it off anyway. just reattach it with a drop or 2 of silicone
