3rd Generation oil warning light

undefinedundefined

I have a 93 camry with 123 000 km on it. The car has been well maintained. The other night the oil warning light flashed on and off three times. I was going about 40 kph. I checked the oil level it is fine.

THat was 5 days ago and I've not seen anything since.

Worrie?????

Thanks

John

It had an oil change a month ago. I've no idea whether the oil pump is in good order. How can I tell?

First check the electrical connection to the oil pressure sending unit. If this is a 4 cylinder 5SFE engine, it is on the right side of the engine block just below the cam cover and it's gasket, if you are standing in front of the car. If the connection is ok, then have someone (usually a shop) unscrew the oil pressure sending unit and temporarily replace it with a real mechanical oil pressure gage. Then they can take actual oil pressure readings. This will indicate if there is a problem with the sending unit or an actual oil pressure problem (weak oil pump or bad engine bearings). With the mileage on your car, unless it has been abused, it is probably just the wiring or the sending unit.

Angry

Turned on today - loud, fast clicking sound - switched off very fast.
Friend told me that Toyotas are prone to having a nozzle in the oil pump blocking which a hot oil flush can cure cheaply.......

He's coming over.

Talking

10 minutes later..................... My prayers were answered - he wasn't too busy to listen to a humble sinner like me.

It's the alternator that's making the noise - I put two and two together and made five.

I have 73,000 on my 94 XLE 5SFE engine. Pretty low for a daily driver, but I'm sure there are some garage queens out there with a lot less.
