My family and I were recently in volved in an accident on Easter. The car was totaled. The car was a 92' Honda Accord EX Coupe, 180,000. We paid $6,000 for the car in 99' with 108,000 miles on it. So I what I was hoping to accomplish here is learn a bit about the camry. I am pretty confident we can find a Camry, Accord or Maxima for roughly the same price with 100,000+ miles on it and still very reliable. I am familiar with the Honda's and what to look for, but I am here to learn some about the Camry's.
What years can I/we expect to be looking at in the $6,000 range and with what kind of mileage? What are some years to stay away from? Any particular years with lots of problems, or recalls that might cause them to be some kind of lemon?
Any insight that you guys and gals can give us would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions for us to help you help us with what to look for, please feel free to ask.
Well, the genration 3 was one of the best years, 92-96, gen4 (97-01) was great too. The i4 5SFE engines were amazing and they used that till the end of gen4 ( i believe)
Camry is a great car, just wait for some more replies.
Thanks for the info. My wife just asked me what the gen3's 95' 96' looked like compared to say the gen4 97' 98' models? So if anyone has a pic of these or some links it would greatly be appreciated.

I've got a '96 Camry V6 LE (the one in the picture below me). It's got 119,500 miles on it, and the only thing that has failed so far is the power antenna. 1996 was one of the best years ever for the Camry; since it was the last year of the third generation, almost all the bugs were worked out of it. On the other hand, my mom had a '98 Camry XLE, and it had a quite a few problems (don't remember them all off-hand; most were electronics-related). I personally prefer the third gen. Camrys to all others. It's very reasonable to find a late model 3rd gen. with V6 power for under 6 grand (mine KBBs at $4,900). They are the best-looking to me; the 4th and 5th gens. look too much like Lexuses. They are the best value, especially when you only have six grand to spend. You should be able to find a 4th gen. for 6 grand, but it will definitely be a four-cylinder, and probably be a pretty basic model.
Looking like a Lexus is a bad thing? Gen 5 are great except for no after market parts. Hey I am looking for after market parts for my Gen 5 Camry 02 v6 hook a brother up with some links!
Hi you guys have access to low price camry, I envy. I spent 6.5K for a 1995 LE i4 with some 60K on her. She runs great! I really like this curvy 3rd camry. The more I look, the more I love.

Great deal then, Ruffrydasaen. The KBB on even a basic 4th gen. V6 is just over six grand; to get it for six grand with those options is a truly awesome deal. And yeah, I just like the shape of the 3rd gen. the best. The 4th and 5th gen. look too stroked back for my tastes, and the headlights/taillights are boring and uninspiring. Fine for most Camry buyers, but I like a little more style in my vehicles.
