Do you guys ever have second thoughts about modifying your camrys? Lately Ive just been thinking a lot about the money Im about to spend on an eleven year old car. I love my camry, dont get me wrong, but what will become of the thousands of dollars i dump into it in a few years when I get a new car?
Ive got full exhaust and suspension parts sitting in my room and it makes me think... should I sell them and save for a car down the road, or should I just say the hell with it and enjoy modding my car while I can? My leaky valve cover gasket is making me wonder... is this a sign of things to come? I just cant decide to mod further or save for another car when I get out of college. Somedays Im very gun-ho about the camry and other days I just want to give up, drive it until it dies, then buy a new car.
Its not the car....its the hobbie. Many people would spend thousands just to restore or fix up a much older cars just like ones you would see in TORC. So maybe you should be asking yourself if you would do it for the car or as a hobby its totally different things. If Hobby it wouldn't matter how much you spent you won't feel any remorse, I for one do it as a hobbie and won't matter how old the car is or how new or how much I spent on it.

I don't know about others, but everytime I think about how much of a "waste" it was to put so much money into my car, I just look at my car or take a drive....
every time my sister borrows the car or uses it for some reson or other and I get to see it in action, I'm amazed at how it good it looks, and I know all the hard work that I've personally put into the car....

i've had thous thoughts. but the ony thing i wish was i keeped it a sleeper. but i have put in over 15,000 into the car. (that is buying parts and finding out what works and what dont). and then you add in the price i paid for the car and i could have got a new MKIV.
but i would do it allover agin if i had the chance
Im sure everyone has those thoughts. Ive had them too... You just have to think of the big picture and what you will accomplish when the car is done. For me, I know that nothing will make me happier than hearing that blow off valve scream every time I slam through the gears at full throttle. Then it makes it allll better.
exactly, evertime i think about giving up, i just go outside, stroke the CF hood. and tell her im sorry for ever having such negative thoughts
Do you guys ever have second thoughts about modifying your camrys?
yes, I think everyone get's these about any car. It's a horrible investment and ppl realize that and get depressed at all the money sunk into them and never to be seen again.(there are some rare acceptances to this)

you will almost certainly get none, maybe a tiny tiny bit of it. Like I said cars are a horrible investment money wise. Ur doing it for urself, not to make money.

Any thoughts?
my personal opinon: do it. It'll be worth it. You won't get the money in the end, but atleast you're happy. and that's number #1 in my book. If I could take back all the money I sank into my camry and put it to a newer, faster car, I most likely would . But I look back on it as a good experience. I learned how to manage and budget my money, make payments, make smart decisions, etc. And look at me now, still sinking money into cars. go for it mang, you only life once. and besides, it's only money

I look at it this way would you rather have a car that was built for speed or build a car for speed with your own two hands. think about it
damn...this dude is deep and w/only 3 posts so far...mad props (and welcome to TN!)
lol...modding my camry is kind of a game to see how much stuff i can get and put on it before the parents yell at me for hours b/c it's a waste of money...(o MAN i'm gonna get shit for the CF trunk <-green guy=dad, other=me)
also, even though there are more modded camrys, there still aren't any large #'s and huge product support, so to make a camry good enuf to compete in shows, will just blow people's minds! no matter how many ppl u talk to, u'll prolly never run into another person that thought, "hum, a camry u say? perfect import tuner!" (w/the exception being if u run into another TN member )

Its a great investment if it makes you happy. Anything that makes you feel accomplished and proud is never a bad investment, no matter how much money you may spend. Every little part that I add to my Gen 5 (no matter how small or insignificant) feels like an accomplishment, and I don't regret spending the money at all. If you like that sort of thing, then after you do it, you'll be glad that you did. I never really planned on doing anything to mine. It just started happening one day and I don't regret spending the money that I did.
I thought about this the whole two hour drive back to my school today and Im just stumped... I guess Ill install what I have laying around and maybe calm down from there. The problem is my uncles/step dad give me crap for putting money into my camry, they tell me im not going to have the car much longer and its a waste and blah blah blah... so I dunno, I feel like they are constantly watching me haha.
My mom would crap her pants if she knew how much Ive put into this car already
