2nd Generation legality question reguarding signal lights

I am contemplating replacing the recessed turn signal lights on the front bumper with some foglights. I would still retain the side signals, however.

Is anyone aware of the general legality of this?

it prolly is illegal, but no one is going to care. I mean, is a cop really going to pull you over, check out the front, and know your camry good enough to say that that is not the stock layout.

Just be sure to turn the side markers into turn signals. Ask 88 LE, he know how to wire everything up for the wiring swap.

I'm not sure where you are in the US. Here in Cali, I guess you can't have just the parking light on, so it's either all on, or all off.

With this idea....

I found this Mod from CustomTacos---tacoma tech section:

Convert your Corner lights to Signals

It's a basic idea. Maybe try try disconecting the lowers and splicing it into the top parking light?

This way, you still have your turn signals and have the lower area for your mod.

Well, I was going to go with a particular style of fogs(shaped like the signals)

I did this mod on my gen 2 recently. I took the stock signals off and replaced them with driving lights. My corner markers are wired to operate as the turn signals. I have been driving around like that for a few weeks and have had no problems. You have to find some brighter bulbs to go into the corners though because stock corners are pretty dim and you can't really notice them blinking all that well. pm me or email me at justinl_85@hotmail.com and ill hook ya up with a general writeup and pics if you want.

Someone posted a mod where your side markers would be on if you have your parking lights and/or headlights on. Then they would blink when you signalled, I think that was 88 LE. Pretty sure it was posted in the Camry sticky. Oh but he didn't disable/remove the regular turn signals.

depends how anal the cops are where you'r at.. the gen2's corner doesn't work too well as a turn signal you can't see it during the day.. i hooked up mine too like in the FAQ so they blink but crap if you can see them during the daylight

yeah i replaced the bulbs in mine with an l.e.d. that had many bulbs on it and i could aim them. if u aim them to where they reflect off of the shiny surface in the corner they are a little better. i would imagine the more l.e.d.s on it the better. if you look at mine during the day it is noticeable that it is blinking but at night it is hella bright.

Well, turning signals doesn't necessarily need to be at the corner or sides. New cars these days don't have them. But if you want to convert it with a foglight, it's illegal, because it's too low for a motorist to see on the road.

CA Motor Code for signal bulb colors:

Orange, Orange-Yellow, Red, or white are legal
Blue and other colors are illegal.

Don't believe me? Look it up.

Dude, i don't think he meant he will waste fog lights for use as signal lights . He wishes to be able to have fog lights where the lower stock signals are and his question is if that was legal. And i say yes, if he wanted to convert his driving lights to turn signals instead.
