Is it just my car or does the '02 camry have issues making a tight U turn. I had a chance to ride in a friends saturn, NOW THAT THING CAN TURN. ...
Now to the reason for this tread, how can i tighten up the U turns, Large/Wider tires? Stiffer shocks? lowering the vihicle?..etc?
Don't want to start a new thread about this, but when im driving on the highway, between 60-80mph my steering wheel really shakes/vibrates. It goes from left to right shake/vibrate and the car tends to pull towards the right .Does anybody else have this problem? Whould this be solved with any of the above recomendations, alignment, new tires?
You are stuck with your turning radius unless you get custom spindles or a custom steering rack, sorry...
As for feeling the road, some would say its a good thing - I specifically increased the feedback from the road on my WRX by stiffening up the steering rack bushings.

does this problem occur during braking or just regular cruising??? if it is under braking i would have to say that ur rotors are shot. if the steering wheel vibrates while just cruising(60-80 hwy speeds) then your tires probably need to be balanced.
edit: oops forgot to mention that the pulling to the right could be a alignment but check things like tire pressure b4 spending the money. a low tire on one side could cause the pulling sensation u describe
like 95camguy said, balance the tires. I had new tires put on recently and the mechanic balanced them incorrectly so when cruising above 60 the car would shake like a maracca.7 bucks a tire to balance each one, get it fixed soon or your tires will wear out quickly.
want a tighter U-turn? Get to speed, brake, flip wheel, and use the e-brake. it's good fun.
I knew somebody was bound to say this, and to be honest i have done this many times, but with golf carts, on dirt roads and wet golf courses. Its really lots of fun esspecially when you alter the speed on them from 12mph to about 20mph.
Unfortunalty the camry was really not designed to do this, and im affraid the body with "fold/crumble" or even flip with something like that.
But to everybody else, thanks for the help, and it vibrates both while crusing and while braking. I guess i will have to buy a set of new tires, get them balanced and the car aligned. I just want to know whether its worth me getting wider tires and rims, for handling and performance or not?
I have a 2003 camry and I think it has a nice small turning circle for its size. I drove other cars and I think the turning circle is smaller than the average car. I dont think there are any differences between the 02 and 03 model when it comes to steering.

The turning radius for Gen5 is about 5.3m (for LE) (5.6m for SE and XLE) , and can you believe that a Corolla has a bigger turning radius (5.4m) than a Camry...

handbrake works fine for pulling a u turn here
wtf is fold/crumble and why does it only apply to the camry? obciously you cant use a handbrake you should be off the handbrake as you start turning in... any longer and you end up understeerign again

If not then something in suspension or steering components is causing it (bushing perhaps) which can't be fixed by alignment or balancing.
For tighter turning radius, like others said you're stuck with steering set up. Rack & pinion creates a larger turning radius at the cost of compact size and ease of use.
I am concerned about this too. I would like to a GEN 2 Wagon someday maybe and wanna know what steering rack I could use to replace the factory wide turner, so I can at least turn around in my street. I do it in my mums gen2 and I gotta do a 3 pointer.
