Angry serious problem with my brakes.

My car is a gen 4, i4. Everytime I brake, the car is vibrate from steering wheels to the brake pedal. (vibrate can feel from the driver side) I thought it was the rear drum brake, so I changed the brake shoes. Well, the problems didn't fix. I changed my front rotors with brembo and toyota pads. The problem's still there. After search on Tn, I found out that whoever did the brake for my car before, put the sliding pins in the wrong oder. The pin with the rubber boot was on top and supported to be on the bottom.( both side was like that). So I took the pins out, bougt 2 brand new pins and put them in the correct order. When I put the pin on the driver side, I can feel it's a little hard to push in, and the pin is hardly move. But i got everything in, do a test drive, the damn car still vibrate everytime I hit the brake. Anyone can give me a suggestion here??? A guy told me it's maybe my caliper piston. I keep thinking it's my torque plate since the pin was hardly can get in. I really need suggestion. Please help. Should I buy a new caliper to get my problem fix????????

You could have over-tightened the caliper mounting bolts. The rear especially require very little torque. Front 25 ft-lbs. Rear 14 ft-lbs. Also make sure the sliding pins are adequately greased with proper high temp and waterproof grease.

I used the torque wrench for the bolts, high temp grease. Somehow, I can feel the pin is so hard to move. Is it support to be like it? I'm thinking about open the caliper and take a look at the piston.

The sliding pins are supposed to slide, otherwise brakes will grab. If I remember correctly, top and bottom sliding pins are identical and both have rubber boots. The come out very easily, just slide them off. You may need new torque plates.

I think I found the problem with my brake, help anyone??????
http://www.geocities.com/uh_oh_itz_q...akeproblem.jpg
as you can see, I marked the red line there. It seems like the pads or something stick to my rotor , last time I check the rotor it has a big line right there. I painted it yesterday, and today, I got the same cutting line again.

Please give me sugestion, why only ken4 helps me here????

Well, I had the same problem recently. The rear axle was just worn and it needed to be replaced. They replaced it, it stopped vibrating.

I feel your pain my man.I had some gangsta problems with my brakes also, same damm thing, massive vibration comin from left front. I 1st changed the pads, went away for about 2 days then started vibrating again. So i changed the rotor, boom all is well for 2 days, then same thing.I checked the rotor and pads and BOTH were screwed up!Less than 100 miles on them and they were toast. So what i did was get a new left front caliper(after gettin another rotor and pads)popped that sucker in and my car hasn't a shimmy or shake since. So,to make a long story short, check the caliper it might be the source of your pain and suffering, lol.

hey guys i have the same problem and still cant figure out wats wrong. wat happned was when i first got my 94 xle both sides of the axles boot were both ripped. this was when the braking was REALLY REALLY BAD. when i turned it made a rattlin noise, when i used the brake it started to vibrate. after about a week i ordered new axles (left and right) from autozone. it took me a whole day to install them, the vibration wasnt gone, it was still there but the vibration droped dramitcaly to very little virbration when my foot is still ont he brake from about 15mph and down. after about 3 weeks into my new axles the dam virbration comes back, so i guessed that it was the axles( remanufactured from autozone not brand new), so i took the the driver side(my dad said that he only felt it over on the driver side and not the passenger side) took it back (lifetime warrenty) i put the new one, and now i still have the little vibration that i stated earlier, and now its startin to vibrate harder, ill try to test the caliber later, wat i thought that caused the vibrating was the brake pads, when i was changin the axles i noticed the pads were REALLY thick, but my dad said it was fine and was mostly brand new pads. I thought they were the wrong pads, because they kept making a sqeekin sound from them, way to big, and i think those pads caused the bubbles in my brake line. when i bought the car i also found there were bubbles on my brake lines, so ill just have to check the whole braking system soon.... sucks fore me...

I'll join' the brake gang too. My dealio is pretty much the same, with the massive screeching and what not that only typically is loud when I am NOT on the brake pedal. Once I get on it, it chills out. I went ahead and used my brake quiet spray and it TOTALLY went away. But, I did notice that the anit-squeal shims on both sides are rusted pretty bad. It would be the one that is directly touching the back of the brake pad, not the outer shim. Meanwhile, I still hear this sound that sounds likes the brakes lightly dragging.

AznXstazy,

Have your rotors turned. The symptom you are describing is indicative of a warped rotor. The longer you drive the hotter it get's and the warpage begins to distort even more. This is when you are probably feeling the vibration the most - after driving it for a while.

Lord_Anarchy,

Someone may have replaced the pads on your car without turning the rotors and the new pads may be somewhat wider than the previous pads. Now the edges of the new pads may be touching a spot on the rotor that was previously not touched by the old pads. It is probably a very rusty spot and it is what is causing the noise. You too need to have your rotors cut or it's possible it will eventually go away. It will eventually wear away that rusted spot or the pads will wear down in that area where they are contacting the rust.

pgmomni,

Make sure you have high temperature synthetic disc brake grease or something like sil-glide on the the 6 high points of the backing plates. The shoes can vibrate against these points and cause a high pitched squeak when braking. You don't even have to remove the shoes to grease these areas. Just pry the shoes away slightly with a flat head screw driver and apply the grease to these spots with an artist's paint brush or even a q-tip.

Sorry if you are already aware of this. Just wanted to be certain it wasn't missed.

pgmonmi,

I would try the grease first. It's cheap and pretty easy and only takes about 30 minutes. I would hold off on the drums until you try this. If it solves your problem, maybe you could return the drums. Drums are not cheap; you know MH3K...

pgmomni,

Glad your problem is fixed.

I have Dunlop Sport A2's on both my 94 and my 98 5SFE Camrys and am pretty happy with them. They are a good compromise between sportiness and overall traction and wear. They are a good H speed rated tire and are also pretty decent in the snow. Not great mind you, but pretty decent in the snow; something you have to consider living in Chicago.
