pcv letting oil to my intake ....

so after much time i final added a filter to the pcv going back to the intake ... well i notice it is catching alot of oil .... so i figured i havent changed the valve ever so i replaced it and drove the car for about 10 miles and it has oil in it again!!! i cleaned out the hoses before i put in a new filter ..... any sugestions?

Below is a direct quote from 91MR2quickNA. I think he says it best. This is the reason you are seeing an oil residue in your PCV system. Basically there is no way to avaoid it since that is waht it was designed to do.


A PCV valve essentially keeps the engine from blowing itself up. PCV = Positive crankcase ventilation. Without any ventilation, the engine would be a time bomb waiting to explode because pressure builds as the engine creates vacuum. It also helps in recirculating blow-by gases that would normally be released into the atmosphere through the intake manifold. A lot of times, this is what causes the black carbon and oil gunk in the throttle body and manifold.

maybe ya engiens just wearing... sounds like youre getting a lot more blow back then you should...\

try a different oil...somethign thicker?

or u could run some seafoam thru it (for god's sake do a search, there a gazillion seafoam threads)

just get an oil catch can and block up the connection to the intake manifold. I don't think it's emissions legal though, but it will solve your problem. If you're a cheap ass you can just run the oil line down to under your car and vent to the road. It might get everythign covered in oil though. I don't reccommend this method.

i seafoamed that engine like mad .... maybe the thicker oil or just letting it vent to the road sounds a lil good

oil catch can.. solve ya problem and is perfectly legal. unlike letting it go do the ground... but you will have to remember to top up teh oil as it gets caught in the can

Filter's not such a good idea either with the PCV system, otherwise you're causing a vacuum leak.
